Our Glamping Yurt Vacation in Cambridge, Wisconsin

Hubby and I are back from our glamping yurt vacation in Cambridge, Wisconsin. I’m happy to say we had a great time. Booking a yurt was a bit of a gamble for me, but one I was willing to take. I mean, how many people can say they’ve stayed in a yurt?

A yurt is a portable round tent with an accordion lattice wall covered with some type of sturdy fabric. The design is meant to withstand heavy winds.

Our yurt has a skylight dome which made it possible to lay in bed at night and gaze up at the stars – or wake up in the morning with a beautiful view of the trees.

Our lakeside yurt is on a platform with a deck which provides beautiful views. We enjoyed gazing out at the lily pads while listening to sandhill cranes, geese, owls, and neighing horses.

Nights were especially magical. Sounds of nature were amplified and the glow of the moon was reflected on the lake.

One of the best things about staying in the yurt was stepping outside to view the sunrise. The yurt came equipped with kayaks and a canoe, which we took out on the water to explore the lake.

Our yurt vacation was a step above camping since we had a comfy bed and pillows. There was no running water (we brought bottled water) and electricity, however. The bathroom was a nearby port-a-potty which I didn’t mind unless I had to go in the middle of the night.

We brought lanterns with us but didn’t really need them because the yurt came equipped with battery-operated lights.

I wish we had booked more than two nights for our yurt vacation. There was plenty to explore in the area which I’ll share in future posts.

  1. OMG, that is so interesting. I have never seen a yurt before. How amazing. I’ve never seen that many lily pads on a lake either. Did you and Hubby carry a stove and cook your own meals?

  2. Wow, i know the scenery is beautiful so i can just imagine how peaceful and nice it must have been to boat ride and walk around.

  3. WOW! More fun in the wonderful outdoors!! That looks like a blast! Why is looking up at the sky, night or day, so calming??? I’ll have to look into any local “yurts.” Thanks so much for sharing 🙂
