Paper Mache Christmas Boxes

Are you ready for Christmas??  I finished the last of my shopping yesterday, and finished the last of my Christmas projects early last week. I made a few paper mache Christmas boxes that I wanted to create last year, but ran out of time. I promised I’d make them this year and got them done just in time!

Paper Mache Christmas Boxes to Make YourselfThis was such a fun and easy Christmas project. I decorated plain, paper mache boxes with scrapbook paper, sheet music, and ribbon. Then I glued decorative elements to the tops of the lids, and sprinkled a bit of glitter on top.

DIY Paper Mache ProjectsI scoured the craft store for paper mache forms and boxes. I like the little round ones. A paper mache house caught my eye too, so I grabbed it as well. I tackled the house first.

DIY Paper Mache Glitter HouseI used chalk paint for the house, painting the house Old White and the roof in Provence. I outlined the windows with green acrylic paint, and also outlined the door with the same paint that I used on the roof. Once the paint is dry, add a light coat of Mod Podge craft glue and then sprinkle on the glitter!

DIY Paper Mache Glitter HouseI also hot glued the tree on the left corner to the house. I was looking for a miniature bottle brush wreath to hang on the house between the two windows, but couldn’t find one. I’ll keep looking though.

Paper Mache Christmas BoxesOn the smallest round box, I glued sheet music to the bottom of the box. I painted the lid and glittered it, then hot glued a silvery piece of ribbon around the rim. I found the tiny church ornament at a local store. It was already glittered but was all white and I felt it needed a little more. So I glued sheet music onto the roof and hot glued small snowballs in a few spots.

Paper Mache Christmas BoxesAnother small box got a treatment of scrapbook paper on the bottom, with a painted and glittered lid. I hot glued one of my papered birds on top.

Paper Mache Christmas BoxesIf you decide to make paper mache Christmas boxes, you can use them as hostess gifts. There’s so many different things you could glue to the lids to personalize them. I’m going to make more at Valentine’s Day and Easter.

Paper Mache Christmas BoxesI think this one might be my favorite. I glued a section of a book page to the base and glued glitter on top. The lid was painted first, then I added a circle of map scrapbook paper to the top, along with a sprinkling of more glitter. I hot glued a pretty gold ribbon around the edge, and hot glued a tiny bottle brush tree on top.

Paper Mache Christmas BoxesThe biggest box has two bottle brush trees glued to the top, along with a tiny vintage angel. I love the little wisp of hair falling across her cheek. But what I love more is that all my Christmas shopping and projects are finished.  We’re headed to my daughter’s house on Christmas morning. Hubby and I volunteered to cook breakfast for everyone. Then on Saturday, the entire family will be at our house to open more gifts and enjoy some Italian desserts!

What are your plans for this year’s holiday?

  1. I LOVE these ideas, Jennifer! I will be using more of my Dad’s old sheet music to make these projects next year. Thanks so much! Btw, I made about 50 of the glittery origami Christmas stars and gave them to friends and family. I even had one left over for my Christmas tree. ???? They were a big hit. Merry Christmas to you and your family!

  2. I love these. You have inspired me to do a couple of these to put my sisters’ birthday gifts in. their birthdays are the 26th and 27th.
