Renovated Scandinavian Farmhouse with Light and Airy Style

A renovated farmhouse receives a new lease on life when it’s infused with beautiful Scandinavian style that freshens the interior spaces. It’s a modern take on Swedish styling that marries architecture of an older home with the clean lines and minimalism of modernity. The front porch is cool and serene with a classic hanging swing and charming boho chic chairs. Two large porch ceiling fans keep the breezes blowing even when the air is still. All that’s needed is a pitcher of lemonade.

The Scandinavian farmhouse has several doors leading into the house. Typical of Swedish homes, the door is painted cheery yellow. A modern bench with blue cushions provides a place to take off shoes. A hook next to the door provides a convenient resting place for Fido’s leash.

The sun room features a paper lantern for lighting. My mother had a similar, larger light fixture over her dining room table. I’ve noticed this style of pendant light is coming back in style.

Here’s the opposite end of the small sunroom. A cozy reading nook incorporates shelves for books and pictures.

The trim in the Scandinavian farmhouse features bullet trim which is typically seen in older Victorian homes. Rather than follow a Victorian decorating scheme, a more modern approach was applied.

The living room in the renovated farmhouse is clean and bright with minimalist style and slim wooden ceiling beams. Note the alcove shelving to the right. Scandinavian floors tend to be a lighter shade of wood like you see here.

A small vintage desk in the living room pairs with a modern painting above. A leaded window sits at the bottom of the steps to the second floor.

The kitchen is light and bright with shaker style cabinets and plenty of of windows. White subway tile and shiplap create a clean look.

The kitchen features a large, dark blue island and opens up into the dining room. A brick painted chimney serves as a reminder of the age of the home.

The dining room is adjacent to the kitchen and features a simple wood table with boho chic style chairs on the left and a simple bench on the right. A pretty bay window allows for plenty of natural light to infiltrate the room.

The master bedroom brings in the use of color through pillows. Otherwise, the room is serene and monochromatic – with a touch of fluffy cuteness on the bed.

In the upstairs hallway, a pocket door is framed with Victorian style trim. The same, light wood flooring runs throughout the second floor.

The daughter’s room is sweet and feminine, dressed in pink and green.

The focal point in the bathroom is the beautiful stained glass window above the tub. Look at the first picture showing the outside of the home and you’ll see pretty bathroom window.

  1. Beautiful renovation. Nice and orderly, but overly stark for me, especially the master bedroom. The little girl’s room look cute. The porch and outdoor spaces are gorgeous!

  2. Lovely home, especially that sunroom and front porch, thanks hope you are having a great day.

  3. Beautiful, bright white, with other crisp, welcoming accent colors, and there’s a kitty cat, that’s adds even more endearing appeal.
