See a Beautiful Modern Storybook Home: Post Hurricane Sandy

Today’s featured house by GLDesign truly feels like a modern-style storybook home to me. Rescued after Hurricane Sandy, the home retains a lot of its original charm, but in a better state. Each room is light and airy and features a generous use of white paint and warm wood finishes. Get ready to fall in love!

The front porch has an ample swing with oversized pillows for whiling away the hours on a warm day.

Step through the Dutch door and enjoy the natural light that floods the home. A large piece of statement art welcomes visitors while a trio of white pottery stands at attention.

During the renovation, special attention was given to interior millwork, with a focus on the use of white oak wood to create coastal style. The living room (along with most of the rooms) is wrapped in white shiplap and features a cozy fireplace with another large piece of statement art.

Adjacent to the living room is the kitchen, creating an open floor plan. Gold hardware and a few wood shelves add definition and interest to the space. So much so, the dog doesn’t want to leave the beautiful room.

A whitewashed, salvaged wood beam was repurposed to create a post to aid in load bearing the ceiling. The mix of old and new is quite lovely.

A cozy dinette enjoys plenty of morning sunlight for lingering over breakfast and coffee.

The family room sports simple styling in textured neutrals, allowing the shiplap, beams, and windows to be noticed. A sisal rug and basket pendant light add beach style vibes.

A floating, double utility sink takes center stage in the powder room with a two-toned wall treatment.

A light and airy hallway leads to beautiful bedrooms in this storybook home.

This charming bedroom features a gray washed faux painted vaulted ceiling. Note the pair of sandpipers on a piece of driftwood above the window.

A driftwood bench takes up residence at the foot of the bed in this unique bedroom with a hanging boho-style chair.

A porthole window in the bathroom is mindful of the ships on the ocean nearby.

Back outside, you can see there’s plenty of outdoor living spaces and levels to the backyard. A beautiful renovation, overall.

  1. Love everything. Beautiful, serene, clean beachy living. Gorgeous back yard. Having lived through Hurricane Sandy at the Jersey Shore, I feel this reno perfectly captures coastal living at its finest. So does the dog.

  2. I love it! I have always found a serene home to be just what I needed after a long day at work. It is clean, bright and refreshing to see. Well done. Thank you.

  3. What a pretty home! I know warm greens are in fashion now but white with added wood tones will always be in style. I wonder where that bathroom sink came from. So nice. They did a great job with the back area as well as the shape looks to be a difficult one. I’d live here:0)
