Setting a Natural and Romantic Christmas Table

When it comes to celebrating Christmas with my loved ones, I prefer to host an evening holiday meal. I love the glow of candles and the tree lights while dining. It creates a warmth and ambiance that everyone appreciates. With that in mind, this year I created a natural and somewhat romantic Christmas table for the family to enjoy. The centerpiece is simply a collection of different evergreen branches layered around a series of short candles. Cranberries are sprinkled on top to pick up the color of the napkins in the bowls at each place setting. I prefer low-profile centerpieces so people can see each other across the table. Hubby would prefer to place all the food in the middle of the table but he loses that battle every year. LOL.

Can we talk about my new bowls? It might seem silly to get excited about soup/cereal/salad bowls, but I’ve been looking for just the right bowls for a while now. A couple years ago I found my dark gray Marin dinner plates at Crate and Barrel. I didn’t buy the bowls because I prefer low-rimmed bowls as opposed to those that are taller.

So I was super excited during my last trip to Crate and Barrel (about 2 weeks ago) and found Mercer low bowls in a pale gray which are a perfect complement to the Marin plates. I like mixing and matching dinnerware instead of having everything go together perfectly. I think it makes the table look more interesting.

The dinnerware is more casual, but rather than use everyday glassware I opted for my crystal Waterford goblets instead. It adds interest and looks more eclectic. Plus the crystal reflects the lights of the tree and the candles, enhancing the romantic Christmas table vibe.

I also brought out my Colin Cowie gold flatware for the same reason as the crystal stemware. Plus gold flatware always says “glam and romance” at the table.

The burgundy napkins came out and were folded and placed in each bowl with a grapevine napkin ring and a sprig of evergreen from the natural centerpiece arrangement.

Most people put their Christmas tree in the living room, but I like ours here in the dining room. The far end of the dining room serves as our entry way so the tree greets guests and then provides the lovely twinkle of lights while enjoying a holiday meal.

  1. I’d love to see actual pictures of dining room looking at your Christmas tree. It looks like it would be very pretty!

  2. Pretty and soft. Of course, someone (like me) is going to ask about the chargers since you didn’t mention them. They look unique and also pretty.

  3. Your table setting is pretty with the greenery, candle lights, and Christmas tree, makes it all so magical.

  4. Very pretty table, Jen! If I had a dining room, I would love to have a tree there too. Instead, I opt for a small tree that used to be my parent’s, on my bay window in the kitchen. I also couldn’t help but notice the beautiful curvy lampshade on your buffet lamp. Where did you find it, please? I have similar lamps to yours and would love to change my shades out. TIA and Happy Holiday to you and yours!
