Setting a Thanksgiving Table: Option Two

I must confess that after setting the first Thanksgiving tablescape (option one) about a week ago, I wasn’t very motivated to create a second one. But I did. Just for fun. I put one together … didn’t like it … ripped it apart and came up with something much simpler than what I originally had.

A white pillar candle in a large jar takes center stage for this second Thanksgiving table.
Each place setting gets its own personal pear.
Gourds take their places on the table to add splashes of autumnal color.
Instead of crystal, I’m using Ball mason jars for drinking vessels.
I tried stemware, but it just seemed too formal.
Since I’m not using a tablecloth, I wanted to keep it less fussy.
I’ve been collecting old silver plate and use it here with my mom’s China that she gave me.
Originally I had 3 layers of the same China stacked on top of the doilies, but it looked too contrived.
So I swapped out the bottom plate for a plain white one to look more farmhouse-style.

Baby boos perch on each mason jar to keep dust from getting in.
To keep a cleaner-looking table, I draped the napkins over the back of each chair.
Look closely and you’ll see a furry friend decided to hop up for a nap on the end chair.
I had to shoo her away to finish the photo shoot.
One thing I learned about myself when setting two different table options is that
I don’t like tables that are too formal. So I try to offset the elegant pieces with simpler pieces.
I also found out that I like organic, natural elements on the table.
Natural elements like a slice of wood and a eucalyptus wreath encircling the glass candle holder.
I found that thick slice of wood at a garage sale for one dollar.
And of course, gourds and fresh fruit provide beauty with their simplicity.
The small white plate was purchased from Rosemary over at Villabarnes.
This glass lantern was a recent find at World Market for just $7.99.
I might go back and get a couple more for Christmas.
Would you believe I didn’t turn the lights off for this photo?
All I did was change the shutter speed on my camera to create this cozy effect.
So which tablescape do you like better?
Option one (which you can see here) or this one, option two?

They look kind of similar to me. Must be all the gourds.
Again, I didn’t turn off the lights for this photo. I simply changed the shutter speed on my camera.
From my table to yours … I wish you all a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!!

  3. I like the informal look, too. Our table will be very informal with 2 toddlers sitting with us this year. Are sippy cups formal or informal?

You are really getting the hang of your camera. I need to spend a little more time playing with mine.

  4. I love this option too! The napkins draped over the chairs is such a fun and unexpected touch. I especially like how you have combined the rustic and formal elements in each of the options. You’ve got so many pretty china sets…how will you choose?

btw I’ve really enjoyed seeing how you are playing with the shutter speed and getting such great results!

  5. People say that less is more, so that is probably the reason why your simple solution turned out so well! 🙂 I like the centerpiece and the idea of jars as drinking vessels! And I like the flower print on your plates!

  6. Love your table! Mine is also white 🙂 great choice. I use my grandmother’s china for the holidays. It’s about 80 years old.
