Shaker Kitchens and Chocolate Dessert: Friday Finds #83

This is the last Friday in January 2022, which means we’re one month closer to spring! For those of us in the Midwest, we still have a long way to go before the leaves sprout on the trees. Even if the groundhog doesn’t see his shadow, spring is still a couple more months away. That furry little critter always lies to us!

Shaker Style Kitchen in White and Wood

Before we get into this week’s Friday Finds, I want to share my excitement with you. Hubby is installing bead board in our bedroom and should finish up this week! I’ve been poring over paint colors, which is fun for me. I kind of know what I want but getting it down to the final choice can be agonizing. I’m thinking some type of blue-green or green-blue for the bead board, and some type of off-white for the walls above the trim. I’ll share photos as soon as it’s complete.

The title of this post mentions Shaker kitchens and I found this adorable cabin-inspired kitchen over at The Faux Martha. I was excited to find out the kitchen resides in a home called the Minne Stuga that you can rent for vacation. You don’t want to miss it!

If you want to learn more about Shaker kitchen design, visit Naked Kitchens (yes, that’s really the name of the site!).

While everyone is snatching up roses and carnations for Valentine’s Day, be the rebel who opts for a beautiful orchid, instead. If your local nursery doesn’t carry them, you can usually find them in grocery stores this time of year. Here’s my tips for successfully growing orchids indoors.

Any fans of stained glass out there? It’s a beautiful and ephereal way to add color to your home. Not to mention how awesome it looks when the sun hits the colored panes. See this collection of ways to use stained glass in your home.

While we’re on the topic of color, check out this Nashville home that has a pretty pale blue and white living room with touches of pink. And guess what? The kitchen is done in Shaker style!

And since we’re roaming the country, I’ll share these fun places to visit in Maine. I think Maine is the only northeast state I haven’t visited so it’s on my bucket list.

One of my readers noticed that I typically end my list of Friday Finds with a dessert or some type of recipe. I don’t want to disappoint her (she’s been a dedicated reader for years), so here’s a Hot Chocolate Pudding Cup recipe from famed chocolatier, Ghiradelli in her honor. They’re easy to make and perfect for Valentine’s Day!

  1. Good morning, when I tap on the places to see in Maine, I am directed to the Country Living website.

I’m going to make the chocolate dessert!

O read your posts almost daily! So inspiring!
    Have a great weekend.

  2. Good luck with the bedroom paint. I notice there are several colors in that family in some of your links today.

  3. If you’re looking for a lighter shade of blue/green, check out Top Sail by Sherwin Williams. I just finished using it on a kitchen/dining/family room area. I can’t take credit for finding it, though. Our kitchen designer suggested it because it is such a pretty, calming color. It looks wonderful with white, too. Thanks for the recipe. I need chocolate today!!!!

    1. Hi Pam! Thanks for that color tip. Top Sail is pretty. So far I’ve only looked at Benjamin Moore colors. I should look at Sherwin Williams, too. Enjoy the chocolate!!

  4. Yep, the Maine link isn’t working Jennifer..I’m so excited to see them though so when you you fix let us know:0)..Maine is a place I’ve had my heart on but just can’t decide where…exactly as we want near a town for eats and shops plus a bit of the water..a quaint cottage for 2? Lol!
Shaker cabinets and that cute A frame Chalet look like a great place to go ans just be quiet. Pleasant spot for a bit of time away.
Right now we miss getting out to restaurants or mingling with friends..maybe a few girls and laughter. One day soon, ,I hope.
    Did you say chocolate? Love!
Oh…and deciding on colors is hard when there are so many options and design creations to be had…I bet yours will look great..looking forward to some photos for inspiration. Doing our laundry room now with some trimmings and washer/dryer topper..so far so good.

    1. Hi Lori!  Thanks for letting me know about the link. I fixed it in the post:  https://www.oyster.com/articles/where-to-go-in-maine-11-places-you-should-see-in-your-lifetime/.  Maine is definitely on my bucket list! You mentioned your laundry room – that’s probably the worst room in my house but I’m getting my downstairs bathroom done before tackling the laundry room. I just shut the laundry door so I can’t see it. LOL.
