Summer Mantel: How to Style

Styling a summer mantel needn’t be difficult. Simply arrange a few of your favorite things in a pleasing manner using a variety of heights.

Today I’m happy to be joining other bloggers as part of the Seasonal Simplicity Series organized by Krista at The Happy Housie! We’re focusing on summer mantels and you’re sure to find inspiration from everyone’s creativity.

The inspiration for my mantel started with a pair of rosemary topiaries that hubby gave to me on Mother’s Day.  I re-potted them in birch bark-type containers to match the summer white vases. I used green and white in my summer colors tour, and the mantel continues the theme.

I placed a topiary at either end of the mantel – similar to book ends but instead of framing books, they frame some of my favorite vases.

I placed the white vases first, then added a couple pale green ones.

The summer mantel still looked a little bare so I added a couple faux white flowers, twigs, and spheres.

I like to stagger heights when grouping things together.

When necessary, I prop items on wood slices or vintage books for height variance, and I group things in odd numbers for visual interest.

My mantel is in my sitting room, which can sometimes be dark because there’s just one window in the room. So I swapped out the old window frame for one of my many vintage mirrors. The mirror reflects the light that comes through the window on the opposite wall. And now my summer mantel is complete.

  2. This is so fresh and pretty! Love the light colors and those topiaries are almost too pretty to believe they are real. And I’ll bet they smell awesome!

    1. Hi Cindy! Our local garden center sells houseplants and topiary. They also sell a variety of very inexpensive pots – like the birch bark ones I picked up. 🙂

    1. Ha ha, Laurie! If you have mirror envy, you should come visit my storage shed. It has a bunch of vintage mirrors that I’ve replaced with other wall art. I go “shop” my mirrors in the shed when I need one of them.
