Summer on the Front Porch

Summer is front porch sittin’ time … that is, if you’re not at the beach,

peddling a bike down a shaded trail, or enjoying a picnic with family and friends.

When I have a few moments to myself, I love to sit out on our front porch.

It’s peaceful and shaded and perfectly situated to capture summer’s breezes.

Collection of 13 Front PorchesFor today’s Humpdays with Houzz,

I’m sharing a collection of refreshing summer porches.

Rustic Porch by Venice Architects & Building Designers

This shabby chic porch is seen all over Pinterest.

It doesn’t seem to matter that the house needs painting.

It’s still beautiful and invites you in to sit a spell.

A new porch is given farmhouse style with lantern lights, green shutters,

wooden flooring, and Shaker style rocking chairs.

Contemporary Porch by Brooklyn Architects & Building Designers Coggan + Crawford

A simple porch wears a blue ceiling.

This is often done in the South to ward off the haints.

I painted my front porch ceiling blue in the spirit of the South, even tho I’m a Yankee.

If you’re fortunate to have a porch large enough for a dining table,

then you are truly living a blessed life.

If this were my porch, I would enjoy meals out here every day!

I love this last little porch with its pig perched on the railing.

The makeshift stone step makes it that more endearing.

Flea Market Glider on Front PorchAnd here’s my front porch where I sit on the vintage glider,

listening to the birds and watching the kids play in the park across the street.

Tell me, do you have a front porch you enjoy during the summer?

  1. I love all these porch pictures!! My porch is also beautiful. Do you allow email pictures of other porches?
    Thanks for sharing! Cookie Parrish

  2. I love all these front porches and I think my favourite is the one with the green wicker furniture and touches of red accents. We have a front deck which I have enjoyed sitting on a lot, but now we have a brand new back deck with a pergola covered section that I am enjoying even more! It’s private but we also have a view of the valley and the fields behind us. Thanks for sharing these beautiful porches, including yours, Jennifer. Have a great day! Pamela

  3. I have a white glider on my front porch too. Love sitting out on my porch. It is all white and my house is a country blue.
After seeing these pictures, I think I might paint my ceiling and the top of the railing blue now….maybe.

  4. I always enjoy stopping by your blog to see what’s going on. It always makes me feel happy, so I thought I would comment. All of the photos are wonderful, but your porch looks so inviting and tranquil.
It makes me want to go out and do something with mine.:)

  5. I am so jealous of your glider! We spent so many summer days on my Grandma’s porch swinging in the glider! That is truly a beautiful porch!

  6. I love front porches! Yours is one of the prettiest! 🙂
Yes, our farmhouse does have a porch. It was one of the things that drew me to the house. I’ve always wanted a house with a front porch with beadboard ceiling, so that I could paint it blue, and we have one. Love it!
Hope you have a great week.
    Beth.

  7. I don’t have a front porch in our current house but I so wish we did. Your glider looks so comfortable I may have to start searching for one of my own.
I found my way here to your blog via your home tour on Shelstring. Your home is so charming and you did a great job of staging your photos. My home will be featured on Shelstring on August 9th. I hope to see you there.

  8. Love these porches! We don’t have a nice deep porch on our house, but that is at the top of the list for our next house. I want to paint the ceiling robin’s egg blue. Though the legend is that Southerners paint their porch ceilings blue to ward off haints, the more practical reason is to trick the birds into thinking it is the sky so that they will not build their nests in the corners of the ceilings. Either way, it is a nice Southern tradition.
