Thanksgiving Table Ideas and Favorites from the Past

Turkey Day is just one week and one day away. Are you ready? If you’re still looking for Thanksgiving table ideas, I’ve got some fresh inspiration for you, along with some past holiday tablescapes that are favorites of mine.

If you live in a warmer climate, consider taking the party outside! I love this messy floral centerpiece. All the colors are complementary – from the flowers to the candles and wine. I’d love to enjoy a Thanksgiving table outside or in a barn. I remember in an old Martha Stewart Living magazine, there was a feature of her hosting the holiday in her barn. Hay bales served as benches for seating. It was lovely!

Do you sometimes stress about the centerpiece for your table settings? Me too!! I love this simple idea of using a houseplant for the focal point. Its trailing ivy creates an organic table runner. If you got a hanging plant with vines, why not make Thanksgiving day easier by doing this? Add a couple of small pumpkins or gourds left over from Halloween and you’re good to go! An added bonus is the pretty glass tumblers in different colors.

Speaking of leftover gourds and pumpkins, group them together with candles in the center of the table and you’ve got a pretty table setting in a matter of minutes. Don’t give it too much thought. A bit of a haphazard look can be so pretty and organic.

Dine with a modern farmhouse scheme by pairing a black and white buffalo check runner with fall foliage. I like that the centerpiece has a low profile. It makes table conversation easier because you can see everyone on the other side of the table.

Here’s another great farmhouse table setting idea (with buffalo checks!) for Turkey Day.

Consider adding fruit to this year’s centerpiece. Stick a bamboo skewer in the end of a small apple or pear, and position the skewer into the vase among the flowers. Then sprinkle a few pieces of fruit on the table to act as a runner. It’s such an easy way to add a different element to your table. If you’ve got a pear or apple tree in the yard, keep the leaves on the fruit when you gather them.

Let texture provide interest at your Thanksgiving table this year. Woven mats and napkin rings pair with textured pumpkins and buffalo check napkins for a simple and pretty look.

White can be oh-so-beautiful and calming on Thanksgiving day. Baby boo pumpkins and twigs of fresh rosemary lend organic appeal at the table.

For those of you who crave color, consider using different colored napkins for a fun, eclectic look.

One of my favorite fall tablescapes that can be used for turkey day is this linen table setting that uses vintage amber bottles for the centerpiece. Linen is pricey but if you use it often, you’ll get the most value from this splurge.

One of the earliest Thanksgiving tablescapes I shared on my blog features an elevated Cinderella pumpkin. It’s fun for me to look back at posts from when I started blogging. I can’t believe it’s been 10 years since I started Town and Country Living!

A more recent fall table setting that I created features wooden mushrooms. I still love those mushrooms and continue to use them as décor throughout my home.

I hope you enjoyed these Thanksgiving table ideas and gained some inspiration for next week!

To finish it all off, here’s some of my favorite recipes for turkey day – I highly recommend trying the turkey brine. It adds moistness and flavor to the meat!

  1. I love the carved toadstools from Cocoon in Geneva. It has been many a year since I visited Geneva but I always found it a fun town. I see Cocoon is no longer selling on line. Unfortunate.
