The Beauty and Charm of a Victorian Style House

When it comes to curb appeal, a Victorian style house never disappoints. Also known as painted ladies, most homeowners use color to highlight all the details of their beloved, historic home.

My personal preference are the houses that are painted in bolder colors to really make them pop. And when they come with a turret and wrap around porch – it’s all the better.

I love this cheery little aqua house. Dental molding, fish scale trim, and two-tone windows really amp up the curb appeal on this charmer.

Subtle shades are equally as pretty as the brighter painted ladies. Note the detail of the tiles on the mansard roof.

Here’s a more formal Victorian style house in pastel colors. The curves create a modern, organic vibe.

Is this house adorable or what? I think what I love so much about architecture from the Victorian era is the thought and creativity that went into each design.

A pair of arched windows take center stage amidst fishtail trim. A touch of gingerbread trim on the porch enhances this home’s curb appeal.

A large stately home in San Francisco is a show-stopper! I can’t help but think what it takes to paint a house like this.

You know I love my red houses and this post wouldn’t be complete without one! The lamppost holds it own against all the detailed trim of this gorgeous home.

  1. All of these are true beauties. I think the reason we don’t have more of this style today is, it would break the bank, to maintain them to the perfection they require..

  2. I can’t pick just one they all have such style and personality.I am pretty sure they didn’t just throw them up like they do now, they were made to last and very artistically.

  3. My favorite would be the French Second Empire home with the mansard roof. We have ONE home of this style in our historic district. It still needs some TLC but it is so special and beautiful. I keep praying that someone will rescue it…. and no, that cannot be hubby and me!
