The Little Vintage Bathroom That Could: Post Renovation

This is the tale of an ugly-duckling bathroom that was transformed into a completely charming vintage bathroom by Folkway Design & Wares Co. and looks like it always appeared the way it is now. From the antique dresser that serves as the vanity to the coveted claw foot tub, this bathroom embraces all the charm of yesteryear.

Here’s a before photo that shows the extent of the current makeover. It looks as though this bathroom had been updated over the years with a mix of styles and is a victim of identity crisis. Tile from the seventies pairs with rustic farmhouse boards on the wall.  A Victorian style shelf crowns the wall above the toilet while a traditional vanity cradles the sink.

White painted shiplap walls now hug the entire bathroom as opposed to having three or more finishes on the wall which overwhelmed the small space. A floor basket creates storage space for towels or can serve as a hamper.

A single hook on a sidewall creates a place to hang a hand towel. Sometimes simplicity is best.

The three-piece mirror adds vintage charm beneath the double light fixture. After seeing this, I had to look up triptych mirrors on Etsy to find one for my upstairs bathroom.

The Victorian-style shelf was removed and replaced with an old print and painting.

The shiplap walls replaced the seventies-style tile work and new limestone flooring was laid throughout the room. The bathroom now enjoys a more cohesive look with timeless appeal.

A small antique bench takes up residence in the corner next to the tub to hold towels. Despite its small size, the bathroom makeover packs a punch in both style and function.

  1. What a transformation. I was intrigued by the triptych mirror and went to the link provided. There is a French design that I am drooling over. I didn’t know these were a “thing.”
