A Touch of Pink for Every Room

Did you know that at one time the color pink was a preferred color for boys and blue was the choice for girls? The thought was that pink was a more vivid color and therefore more masculine. Blue was more delicate and therefore meant for girls. It wasn’t until after World War II that the trend of pink for girls started to take flight. So if you want to paint a room pink in your house and hubby starts to squirm, assure him that it wasn’t so long ago that pink was associated with the male species.

I like the color pink and think it can be used in any room of the house. The following collection of inspiration photos will give you ideas for adding a touch of pink to any room.

Living Rooms

My mother’s living room was pale pink; I sponge-painted it for her back in the nineties. If pink walls are too much for you, consider a pink-patterned rug or piece of small furniture like an ottoman.

Add a soft pink slip cover to your favorite chair. Even a small bouquet of flowers or floral curtains can add just the right touch of pink so it doesn’t feel overwhelming.

Bedrooms

When you think of pink bedrooms do you envision a frilly girl’s bedroom? Bold pink can look grown-up and a little dramatic in an adult bedroom.

  4. I grew up in a pink and purple bedroom. The walls were a mid color pink with pale purple curtains, bedspread and a dark purple shag rug lol (we are talking early 70’s). My Dad did this bedroom and honestly it was very pretty for it’s time. But I lived with this bedroom for 10 years and after we moved I honestly couldn’t stand the colors pink and purple for the longest time. I have since brought those colors back into my life but in clothing so all these different designs make me rethink pink for decor . Thank you for a wonderful post.

  7. It was a tradition in Catholic hospitals (and might still be in some) to have the boys in pink blankets in honor of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the girls in blue in honor of the Blessed Mother.
