Ultimate Decks for Outdoor Living

When I say “ultimate decks” I’m not strictly referring to outdoor living spaces with grandiose decks. I simply mean any sized deck that suits your personal needs for enjoying the great outdoors! While some of the decks shown are gorgeous and expensive, others are smaller and equally as charming.

If you’re a regular reader, you know we had a pond and deck added to our backyard. Since then, I’ve been surfing through Houzz looking for inspirational ways to decorate decks and patios.

When creating your ultimate decks, there are so many things to consider – like shape, yard space, even the grain and color of the wood. I love this reddish brown decking, which is similar to what we chose.

This city deck in Chicago appears to have it all! A gorgeous view of the skyline, an outdoor kitchen, and a cozy fire pit with modern seating.

Here’s a smaller deck with a pretty pergola and beautiful outdoor dining set. Despite its cozy size, it’s worthy of being on the list of ultimate decks.

A homeowner with a small plot of land makes the best use of it for outdoor living. Built-in seating by the fire pit makes great use of space.

As I was looking through photos for ultimate decks, I realized that furnishings don’t have to be elaborate to be enjoyable. I love this simple bright aqua patio set on a small deck. It’s perfect for intimate gatherings.

But honestly, the most perfect of decks in my book is one that hangs over water. I’m a summer girl through and through and this right here is pure bliss for me.

And this is my deck before we stained it. We don’t live on the water so we brought the water to our backyard with a koi pond. The pond came before the deck – followed by two patios. You can see recent photos of my koi pond over at my sister blog, Pond and Garden.

  1. I apologize … I did not notice the header… I went straight to the gorgeous pics !!! lololol… But I did scroll back up as soon as I read your remarks!!! 🙂 … Very Very pretty … I love it !!!! ( and… may i say… Im glad your kept the name !!! )

  2. I love the new Town & Country Living font design, but promoting your own name would have been a reasonable change too. Your followers love your blog regardless of what it’s called. Keep on doing what you do so well.

  3. I think your deck and pond are so relaxing looking. I would love to spend time there. I also like your new heading. Very classy .

  4. Yes! I noticed it right away! Looks great!!! And love this post! My patio and fire pit is my favorite place to be!

  5. Love the new , but of course i really am here to see what you have to show us, and will be” until the cows take me home” , that’s something my grandmother use to say, lol! I know where you will be this summer and i would be too , night and day, listening to the water and watching nature.

  6. iI’m glad you kept the name also, on occasions we all live in both worlds……however, they are soooo different and wonderful.

  7. I am so glad you kept the Town and Country. Your name would have been lovely too. But I enjoy that your blog is so much about the homes and decor. And Town and Country says it just right. The new headers are great! Elegant and clear and inviting. Your pond was so inviting and so much fun to watch go in. Now we are building one too. I’ve looked high and low on the net, and yours is one of the best. It fits into the space so organically. And the pebble beach for your grandson is the cherry on top!

  8. Town and Country is perfectly succinct for your wonderful blog. I have major pond envy! One of my future projects is to put in a pond; after we dig a deeper well! Please enjoy your beautiful yard and pond and know many of us are fantasizing about our yards and what they will EVENTUALLY be………..

  9. Beautiful photos and examples of how you can use wood to create warm and inviting outdoor decks. My favorite is the lounge-like deck with a firebowl and skyline view – a wooden oasis and relaxing place in a concrete jungle.

  10. Light Woods as the Deck wood, is to me, most appealing and inviting. In the evening, it has a glowing warmth that can be further enhanced by lighting, and during the day, it provides a vibrant life that welcomes you….like Home…like fresh crisp air and cool water even in the beauty of heat…..Morning, noon and night, the oasis of respite.

  11. Te voy a tener en cuenta cuando llegue el momento de irme a vivir en el campo, espero que sea pronto. Se que seras de gran ayuda.
    Gracias

  12. The new look blog feels familiar yet is fresher and newer looking. Well done with the design! In my previous house, we had a large 6 m x 6 m deck, on which we lived winter and summer. It was a metre off the ground and very private. In this house, we have a deck, the same size, but much higher off the ground. It is also very private and well furnished yet we do not use it. It is nice to look upon through the glass doors, but it is not loved like the old one and I cannot fathom why.

  13. Love your backyard…the pond is fantastic as I love all the river stones and the deck is up close and personal. Beautiful !!!
