Shaker-Style Kitchen, Beautiful Country Homes + More: Friday Finds

August is here and summer is still going strong here in Illinois. I want to make the most of the remaining warm days so tomorrow we’re visiting the Anderson Japanese Garden in Rockford. I’ve never been, but it looks intriguing. I’ve always been a fan of Asian culture and gardens ever since I read The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck. I loved her writing so much that I think I’ve read all of her novels.

And speaking of reading, summer is my favorite time to indulge in books. I’m currently reading Swan Song by Elin Hilderbrand. It’s a story that takes place on Nantucket Island, which I plan to visit next summer. Recently I ordered The House of the Witch that won’t be released until next week. It’s historical fiction, which I love. And now, let’s check out this week’s Friday Finds!

You don’t want to miss this gorgeous Shaker-style kitchen in a 1000-year-old mill house. It has exactly the style of cabinets I want in my own kitchen. And the wood floor! It’s a little worn but absolutely beautiful with its organic vibe.

Do you like to pare down your room interiors for easy living during the summer months? If yes, you might want to check out Southern Living magazine’s tips for avoiding mistakes that make your home look messy.

The Thrillest lists the most beautiful historic neighborhoods across the country. Have you visited any of these interesting places? I’ve been to three of them.

I absolutely love this next find of the week. Go to the Supercook site where you can enter ingredients you have on hand and it gives you a recipe. What a great way to use what’s in your fridge and pantry before the food expires! Especially now when food prices seem so high.

I found a new-to-me home decor website that features an older townhome with a fresh, modern approach to decorating its historic rooms.

I’ll end with this collection of Friday Finds with pretty country home exteriors in Australia. Maybe some day I’ll take a trip to the land down under. I’ve always wanted to see a koala bear in person (and not at the zoo).

  1. What unique homes in Australia. Went in to look at them and they are all different and charming, inside and out. I hope to see more of your pics from England soon. Think you still has some more you were going to share. Fun post today. Thanks.

  2. LOL. I started to say what in the world does Australia have to do with
Coltswold two different countries. And the houses look nothing like the ones in Europe
