A Remarkable Vintage Farmhouse in Wood and White: Book Giveaway
Today’s vintage farmhouse is one of twelve featured in Fifi O’Neill’s beautiful book, Shades of White: Serene Spaces for Effortless Living. The book explores the many personalities of white and how the color can work with wood, metal, textiles, vintage pieces, and other natural materials to create rooms ranging from rustic to romantic and modern to classic.

What’s more – I’m giving away a copy of this beautiful book! To enter for a chance to win, simply leave a comment at the end of this post. I’ll announce the winner next Sunday, September 6th. Now let’s get on with the tour!
White interiors can sometimes feel a little too perfect, but today’s vintage farmhouse is anything but. Weathered floorboards, rough-hewn beams, old brick, primitive furniture, and well-loved antiques give every room a special warmth.
A white slipcovered sofa fits perfectly in the living room with antique wood, woven baskets, an old mirror, and flowering branches. The result is neutral without being bland. This space is both peaceful and full of personality.

A large, timeworn pitcher filled with delicate flowering branches is really all this little vignette needs. The rustic table, antique mirror, and black wall sconce create a beautiful mix of rough and refined.

Exposed beams, wide floorboards, an old brick hearth, and a large pine cupboard give this room the kind of character that can’t be manufactured. Even the mismatched furniture feels perfectly at home, and the dog may just be the best accessory in the entire house!

Warm antique pine is the star of this light-filled kitchen that’s adjacent to the living room. The substantial island, vintage hutch, old chairs, and plank floors keep the white cabinetry and walls from feeling cold and give this vintage farmhouse its unmistakable sense of history.

A wire basket filled with apples adds one small burst of color against the white beadboard. The collection of white pitchers above it is a good reminder that everyday objects can become beautiful displays when grouped together.

Nothing here feels overly coordinated, and that’s a big part of its appeal. A long rustic table, mismatched chairs, a simple bench, and black iron chandeliers create a dining room that feels relaxed, welcoming, and genuinely collected over time.

An old worktable becomes a beautiful sideboard when topped with baskets, pottery, and an oversized architectural piece. Against the clean white walls, every worn surface and woven texture gets a chance to stand out.

This bedroom might be my favorite room in the house. The original brick fireplace and wide-plank floors bring so much texture to the mostly white space, while the antique wood bed and simple bench add just enough warmth.

Rather than leaving the unused bedroom fireplace empty, a weathered crock filled with chunky white candles turns it into a charming focal point. I love how the creamy candles contrast with the wonderfully imperfect old bricks.

Next to the bed, an old pine washstand adds character to this vintage farmhouse. Lilacs, white pottery, and a silver candelabra prove that even the simplest furniture can look wonderfully elegant.

Even a pass-through space feels special when the architectural details are this good. Wide old floorboards and crisp white walls are complemented by humble pieces such as a woven bench, baskets, and an improvised rack for everyday necessities.

This home is a wonderful example of why a neutral interior doesn’t need a lot of color, or even a lot of things, to feel warm and interesting. Sometimes an old wooden table, a beautiful basket, a vase of flowers, and the patina that comes only with age are more than enough.

Love, love, love this home!!! White can indeed feel cold and sterile, but the addition of all those organic materials (brick, weathered wood) adds warmth and texture to the white walls and cabinets. Just beautiful!
I’d love to sit with a cup of tea and this book on my porch this morning!

This warms my heart through and through. So many are saying farmhouse decor is over. I loved this type of home long before it exploded, and love it still. I actually own many of the pieces featured in this book. This look is truly how I feel at home. Would love to own this beautiful book.

I always thought white was too sterile and boring – not anymore!

I am a neutral girl myself and love the natural wood with whites. Ahhhh so soothing and beautiful. That fireplace is killer. Love love that. Have a great week ahead. Fifi really knows how to capture the beauty in her books.

Hi Jennifer,
I m so happy to see that Fifi is still going strong. What beautiful photography. My house is white too after years of trying different colour schemes. White really showcases pine furniture and flooring and all of the wonderful, meaningful accessories in a home.
I would love to win a copy of this book but because I am not in the USA I understand if that isn’t possible.
Good luck to the lucky reader!

Love this look – rustic but cozy. Thank you for this generous giveaway.
A lovely home with inspirational ideas to use in my home!
Oh My…..What texture and warmth are displayed in this home! I just love the patina that wood offers to a home. Although my home is newly built, I chose to let all my shaker, mission & other antique pieces be displayed in all their splendor in warm white painted walls. Even my alder wood trim is all handmade & hand stained! Fifi’s book tells the decor story that is in all of our hearts!
This post speaks to me on SO many levels emotionally. I just love your posts and never miss one!
Just a very special home!!

I really enjoy your blog, Jennifer.
I would love a copy of this book Shades of White/Serene Spaces! The look of the white softened by the natural wood is so very nice. I always enjoy your blog! Thanks for writing it.
Loved the farmhouse. So peaceful!
And looks like another good book by Fiji. I so enjoy your site. Have been receiving it for a very long time. Thanks.
What a hoot that your topic today is white/neutral rooms and inspirations. We are renovating our guest bathroom and because we want the floor to be the focal point we just made the decision TODAY that we can’t use the wallpaper I had chosen AND BOUGHT and we will have to go with white toilet and sink and Alabaster colored walls. In other words WHITE AND NEUTRAL!! Ain’t that some’un! I feel like my whole body and soul has taken a deep exhale. Serenity now. 🤭
I really love these natural floors and that washstand is fabulous. Using the natural wood with the whites makes it less cold or stark feeling. This is colors or lack there of I can get behind. It gives a wonderful base to work with. Hmmm
I love how much white brightens up a room and gives space for the wood to be a key feature. Just purchased a colonial home built in 1710…. I’ll definitely be borrowing some ideas from this house!
Long to read this book
Wood and white!! My favorite! Even a brown and white doggie 🐶. Thanks for this opportunity!

I love Fifi’s Instagram posts.
Love all these areas with white and all added ideas to make it really stand out. Wood is always a favorite to have in all rooms.
The combination of lilacs, white ironstone and rustic pine makes my heart skip a beat. Hard to imagine anything cozier. Thank you for introducing me to this bound collection of beautiful photos.
As I get older I find that I appreciate softer color palettes like those shown in this book. I love the large woven architectural wall piece!
