Living with Painted Floors

For the longest time I’ve adored painted floors, so when I ripped up the carpet in my current home shortly after moving in, I was thrilled to see painted floors underneath. They were white, and while I love white painted floors, it wasn’t practical for kids and pets. I lived with the white floors for several months but was constantly cleaning them because you could see every speck of dirt and every strand of pet hair. So out came the dark chocolate paint to give my floors a more dramatic look. Today I thought it’d be fun to share variations of painted floors with you that I found over at Houzz.

White painted floors paired with white walls make the colors of the bedding stand out.

I love the crisp look of white floors and someday would like to re-incorporate them.

Would you put the same color on your walls and your floor? This space carries it off beautifully by dividing the space with crisp white and the addition of warm wood.

If you’re not brave enough to paint the floors inside your home, you could opt to paint a porch floor.

This one wears a pretty teal paired with a red, patterned rug. Beautiful!

What I love so much about painted floors is you can really change the mood of a room depending on what you do. Here, a vintage bathroom acquires a farmhouse feel with it simply painted floors … note the planks are various widths.

  1. I love painted floors as well Jennifer. I am thinking of trying to talk Mr. Front Porch into the idea of me painting our stair landing sometime this year after I rip the carpet off.

  2. I adore painted floors! Our house was built in 1920 and has fir floors throughout. When we moved in, they were covered by laminate and carpeting. We have since removed all of the laminate and carpeting and have painted the floors. They were painted chocolate brown, and we have painted our floors a mix of different colors and patterns. Creamy white in the dining room, living room, and master bedroom. Green and cream checkerboard in the kitchen, and lavendar and cream stripe in our daughters’ room. I love the white, but don’t like the amount of dirt that shows. And we have five children, so we have a lot of dirt. 🙂 I’ve been considering repainting the living room and dining room floors either a tan or a chocolate like yours, to cut down on some of the cleaning, but I do love the airiness of the white. What to do?! 🙂
Thanks for sharing all of these beautiful inspiration photos. I pinned the kitchen with the checkerboard floor. Love that kitchen!
Hope you have a wonderful day!
    Beth.

  3. What beautiful photographs. When I saw that kitchen with the checkerboard floor my jaw dropped, for it is everything I had always dreamed of. When I had hardwood floors I never had the nerve to just go for it. Now I have cream colored tiled floors and I have become their slave. 😀

  4. Hi, I LOVE the pattern on the ourdoor porch (blue and white). Can you tell me where to purchase the stencil? Thank you so much for showing us your beautiful work!
