Since we still have snow on the ground, I’m going to share my mini felt mittens project. When I was a little girl, my grandmother and I used to make mini felt mittens while sitting at her farmhouse kitchen table. I haven’t made them since then, but for some reason those little felt mittens came to mind and I had to make some.
I had to think back and remember exactly how we made them (my memory is better than I thought!). My grandmother – we called her Mimi – and I used these as bookmarks, which you’ll see at the end of the post. I thought they’d be cute hung as a banner, too!
These are so easy! Choose your felt and embroidery floss colors. Cut small mittens out of the felt.
Embroider a flower onto one of the mittens, using a French knot for the center and a lazy daisy stitch for the petals. I didn’t use a pattern, I just did it free hand. You can see how to make these stitches at the DMC website.
Place the embroidered mitten on top of a plain mitten and stitch the edges together using a blanket stitch. Leave the bottom of the mittens unstitched.
Finally, add lace to the bottom of the mitten to create a cuff. You can either sew the lace on, or hot glue it onto the felt.
Insert one prong of a girl’s hair clip into the mitten. To secure the clip to the felt, I added a small glob of hot glue onto the hair clip after tucking it inside. You can leave the mitten like this, or slide the exposed part of the clip into another mitten.
Turn the mitten over and use it to clip your spot in a book.
Or you can clip your mini felt mittens onto a stretch of ribbon or cording like you see here.
I had such sweet memories of Mimi while I worked on this project. I can’t believe I haven’t made any mini felt mittens for all these years. Mimi and I used to embroider pillow cases, too. I really miss her!
I was actually surprised that I remembered how to make these mini felt mittens.
Easter is a little more than two weeks away and since many of us are staying at home right now, we might have some time to be decorating Easter eggs. Here are nine easy ideas (well, maybe one is a bit harder) for you to try – even if you’re all grown up! These…
Mother’s Day is a month away and I’m feeling a bit melancholic about it. My mother passed away earlier this year after struggling with Alzheimer’s disease. I know she wouldn’t want me to be sad, and rather than mourn losing her, I’d prefer to celebrate her life. I’ve created a Mother’s Day printable for you to download;…
Last Saturday I shared some of my favorite Christmas crafts from over the years, and today I’m back for the second installment. Truth be told, I don’t have much time for crafting these days but I enjoy looking back on some of my holiday projects. One of my favorite projects was my Pine Cone Christmas…
If you’ve been around Pinterest for any length of time, chances are you’ve seen photos of mugs, bowls, and plates decorated with Sharpies. This looked like a fun project to try so I did a bit of research before decorating dessert plates with Sharpies. I found some really helpful information that’s critical to the success…
About a year ago I scored an old skinny armoire for $40. It’s a great piece of furniture because it doesn’t take up much space. Although I loved the dark wood, it felt a little ho-hum to me. After all the fun I had painting and decoupaging my desk (check it out here), I decided to…
Do you love good thrift store finds as much as I do? How would you feel if someone sent you thrifty finds to transform into something new and wonderful? That’s exactly what’s going on right now during “Swap It Like It’s Hot” week, organized by the amazing Charlotte at Ciburbanity! This is the 3rd time I’ve been involved…
If you have a minute I’d be thrilled if you could pop on over to my blog and share this gorgeous post at my weekly Say G’day Saturday linky party. It has just started and this would be a great addition.
These are just the cutest mittens and make a sweet garland. They’d be cute on the tree at Christmas too. Have a lovely weekend.
What a sweet idea! You are so clever.

So cute! Love it and your creativity!
Aw, these are adorable! Both the banner/bunting and the book mark. I don’t know how you find so much time to make things!

These are so pretty. I agree that they would be beautiful ornaments. They’re also perfect for this cold weather we’re having! You are very talented!
