Nature Inspired Wood Slice Magnets

crafts, DIY, Printables March 19, 2019

I grew up in a home where we weren’t allowed to put stuff on the refrigerator door. My mother said it looked too messy, but I no longer follow that philosophy. Instead, I make pretty nature inspired wood slice magnets for the fridge!

Today I’m joining 25 other bloggers to bring you loads of free spring printables to help decorate your home! Thanks to Kristen at Ella Claire for organizing today’s event.

I’ve got several nature images to download to create your own nature inspired wood slice magnets. My favorite is the mushroom. Maybe because it reminds me of a mushroom-patterned fabric I used to make a pair of bib short overalls back in the seventies!

You can find a variety of wood slice styles and sizes at any craft store or on Amazon. They range in price – I chose the cheapest wood slices. Cut the leaf or mushroom out and use Mod Podge to glue to one side of the wood slice. Turn the slice over and glue one-inch ceramic magnets on the other side using a hot glue gun.

You could apply a thin coat of Mod Podge over the front of the magnet to protect the image. I chose to leave mine as is with no final coat. If I were making coasters, I’d add a thin coat of Mod Podge to protect the graphic from perspiring glasses.

Below are links to the mushroom and leaf images I used for my nature inspired wood slice magnets. They’re available in three sizes to accommodate a range of wood slice sizes. You can use the large ones for coasters.

Really cute idea. When my children were growing up, I didn’t like things on the refrigerator either. It always made the kitchen look even messier than it was, but it was one place where they could post their artwork, their photos and their school reminders, so I lived with it. For many years now I have had a perfectly clean refrigerator (even my grandchildren are 20 somethings) and would love to see a piece of childish artwork there.
