Peanut Butter Hot Chocolate

When I was in college we had an ice cream bar in the dining commons and my boyfriend at the time always added a scoop of peanut butter to his bowl of chocolate ice cream. I thought it was kind of disgusting until I finally tasted the combination and loved it! Yes, I love peanut butter and chocolate candy, but cold ice cream and lukewarm peanut butter just didn’t seem right to me. I know better now. Since the temperatures are dropping here, the thought occurred to me to add the creamy taste of peanut butter to cocoa to make Peanut Butter Hot Chocolate.

Hubby was outside in the nippy 50-degree air today getting some final seasonal chores done out in the yard, so I made him this tasty treat of peanut butter hot chocolate with a few cookies.

Peanut Butter Hot ChocolateMy daughter uses peanut powder so I decided to try adding Jif Peanut Powder to my homemade hot chocolate recipe.

Peanut Butter Hot ChocolateAll you need to do is add this powdery goodness to your hot chocolate. I love that it adds 7-9 grams of protein per serving and has 85% less fat than traditional peanut butter.

Peanut Butter Hot ChocolateJust mix together some cocoa, sugar, vanilla flavoring, a dash of salt, a couple tablespoons of the peanut powder, and of course milk!  Heat it up and you have a smooth and velvety beverage to enjoy!

Peanut Butter Hot ChocolateAdd a few jumbo marshmallows for additional sweetness!  I took a mug of my newly concocted Peanut Butter Hot Chocolate outside to my hubby who was adding leaf guards to our gutters before the leaves start to fall. He drank it all and asked for a couple more cookies.

My daughter told me to add Jif Peanut Powder to oatmeal in the morning, so I’m going to give it a try. You can add it to smoothies and use it when baking, too!  Download a $1 off coupon for Jif Peanut Powder.

5-6 jumbo marshmallows (optional)

Stir together sugar, cocoa, peanut powder, and salt in a medium size saucepan. Place over medium heat on the stove and slowly pour in the milk. Add the vanilla extract. Heat until hot but not boiling. Pour into mugs and serve with marshmallows, if desired.
