Good Changes Coming to My Blog!

Happy Saturday to all of you! I'm just popping in today to let you know about some changes coming to my blog, Town and Country Living. I started my blog seven years ago! I can't believe it's been that long ago since I nervously published my first post about my daughter Bridget's burlap and lace wedding.   The first time I showed pictures of the outside of my house was back in November of 2011. I think I was using a simple point … [Read more...]

Transitional Mantel from Winter to Spring

Winter storm Harper is blowing through our neck of the woods and I'm hunkering down with candles at the ready in case we lose power. I'm also keeping our decor simple while we paint a few rooms and pieces of furniture. In that spirit, I created a transitional mantel to last from winter to spring.   White ironstone lightens up my vintage transitional mantel while a few houseplants soften the look. The plant is Swedish Ivy and is super … [Read more...]

Modern Farmhouse in Chicago Suburbs

Today's modern farmhouse tour would make Joanna Gaines proud. It carries her signature black and white farmhouse style and is located not far from where I live. Large double front doors let in plenty of natural light through their windows. I'm not a fan of exterior doors that don't have a window. If privacy is needed, simply add a shade like you see here. Fresh and Airy North Carolina Home

Today we're taking a break from all the Christmas decor to tour a fresh and airy North Carolina home in muted tones. There are several elements I love about this charmer! Photo by Ally Whalen Design The first thing that caught my eye in the kitchen was the pair of framed cow prints (no wonder, since I have several cow paintings in my own home). I also love the shiplap, open shelves, and wood floors. Photo by Ally Whalen Design A pair of large … [Read more...]

Tour a Simple Farmhouse Cottage

Sometimes enthusiasm for decorating can lead to a cluttered looking room. Today's home tour features a simple farmhouse cottage dressed with a light hand, allowing the home's beautiful bones to stand out. The home's entryway includes a rustic bench upholstered in linen grain stripe fabric. Windows are left unadorned so as not to block nature's beautiful views outside. Photo by Kelly and Co. Fresh Spring Look for the Kitchen

Remember when I confessed that I spent too much money on faux flowers in a single shopping spree? I'm attempting to turn buyer's remorse into shopper's glee by using the flowers as much as possible. So it should come as no surprise that I created a fresh spring look for the kitchen using said flowers.   I had so much fun taking photos of my spring kitchen because I just got a new Nikon camera! It's an upgrade from my former camera and … [Read more...]
