Are Tables Replacing Kitchen Islands, and Other Friday Finds

Today’s end-of-the-week inspiration includes a couple of kitchen features, one of which predicts the fall of kitchen islands and the rise of kitchen tables. You’ll find other goodies too, like tips for making the perfect pancakes and more.

This weekend I’m going to finish as much of the kitchen painting as I can before we leave for Hawaii. I know I won’t get the kitchen done until after we return. And then hubby is going to spruce up the dining room with some trim work for me. I can’t wait! But enough of me. Let’s move onto this week’s Friday Finds!

According to House & Home, kitchen tables are beginning to replace kitchen islands. I don’t know if I believe that entirely, but I do like this collection of kitchens that swap out an island for a table.

Speaking of kitchens, get ready to be enamored with this yellow, red ochre, and wood kitchen that looks so rich and delicious. Looking at it makes me glad that I’m infusing more color into my home (still working on getting the kitchen painted).

Do you like the look of a gallery wall but struggle to get the photos and pictures placed just right? My friend Kelly at Eclectically Vintage has the perfect solution – picture ledges! Why have I never thought of this? What a much easier way to display a series of wall art.

It’s not Friday Finds without a house tour of some sort. Enjoy an eyeful of this Scandinavian style cottage nestled above a lake. The heart of the home isn’t the kitchen – it’s the glassed-in porch. What a beauty this house is!

More beauty awaits you at this collection of dreamy English bedrooms. Such an elegant yet comfortable decorating style!

And now for the featured recipe! Do you dream of the perfect pancakes? Get the recipe for your next fluffy batch from Williams Sonoma. Yum! You can make this tomorrow morning to start the weekend off on a tasty note!

  1. I love the thought of kitchen tables in place of a kitchen island. However, it would have to be a high-top table otherwise I would have to bend over awkwardly or sit down at the table when cooking or meal prepping. The nice thing about a high-top table being used as both a kitchen island and a kitchen table, is that you can store barstools underneath it to pull out when you do need to sit down instead of chairs sticking out taking up additional space in the kitchen. The only problem I see with that, though, it is not a practical idea for families with little ones, such as myself. But still a lovely idea 🙂

  2. The first home my brother and SIL built was a wonderful primitive-style country home. It had a kitchen much like yours but with a U shaped design, wide entry doorway and large “pass through” open to the main room. Front and center in the kitchen was the sweetest round table and chairs, right where a big ol’ island would be in today’s builds. Everyone LOVED that kitchen. It is still one of my favorites ever.
PS: Heading to the kitchen to make pancakes!

  3. I love the English atyle, so pretty. I enjoyed the kitchens with tables in them, which I have. I found my breakfast bar was always cluttered and tore it out, my table is perfect and for some reason nothing ever ends up there. Have a wonderful time in Hawaii.

  4. The annoying thing about what we read on the internet is that most of it is opinion, not fact, and with nothing to back it up. Kitchen islands are not (and never will be) going away. This is just someone’s half-a**’d attempt to sell more of what people don’t want or need.

    1. You are so right. Love my kitchen island which has a sit down table on other side of it (not a bar stool which I hate). The island is great for prepping and lots of other uses!!
