Create a Cottage Style Breakfast Nook
Cottage style is a simple, casual decor that’s easy to create in your home. During the summer, I find it especially easy to infuse cottage style with light colors and summer flowers. Hubby and I recently went on a wildflower picking excursion so I took the opportunity to dress up my cottage style breakfast nook with summer colors.
In addition to the wildflowers we found, I added a vintage tablecloth and swapped out my white captain’s chairs for these wooden folding chairs that I found at the Kane County Flea Market in June.
A whimsical vintage tablecloth is an easy way to add instant cottage charm. I found it at a local boutique. The white ironstone bowls need some homemade ice cream in them, don’t you think?
To create the cottage style centerpiece, I filled 3 mason jars with wildflowers and placed them in this French style crate that I made last summer from a Goodwill find.
The image was easily transferred onto the crate after painting using a Mod Podge transfer method.
The wildflowers in this arrangement include Queen Anne’s Lace, a daisy-type wildflower, and native grass that resembles wheat.
Simple and sweet, the flower-filled crate is the same shade of blue found in the tablecloth. I was going to paint these wooden folding chairs but I like the rustic charm they lend to my cottage style breakfast nook, as is.
This basket of yellow and white cottage wildflowers need to be arranged in a display. Hubby and I loaded up 2 big pails of wildflowers. I added them to other rooms in the house and will share those photos soon. For me, flowers are the easiest way to infuse summer fresh cottage style throughout the home.
Light colors, simple folding chairs, a vintage tablecloth, and summer wildflowers all come together to create a cottage style breakfast nook. It’s a happy space to start and end the day with a home-cooked meal.
