Friday Finds #19: Summer in October

friday finds October 9, 2020

For as long as I can remember, we always get one warm week here in Illinois during the month of October. That burst of warm weather is currently happening and prompted me to take today off from work. This will likely be the last balmy weekend of the year. I want to get outdoors to enjoy the pond and do a little fall pruning in the garden.

Colorful pumpkins and gourds on barrel for autumn harvest

It was a busy week at work. In case you didn’t know, I’m the marketing communications manager at Aquascape, Inc. The owner and our VP of construction just installed a waterfall for Laura and Aaron at Garden Answer. If you love gardening, you probably know who they are.

I reached out to them a couple of years ago about having us install a water feature on their property, but the timing wasn’t right. Now that their son Benjamin is older, Laura was ready to add a splash of water to their gorgeous gardens. The video of this exciting project is at the end of this post in case you’d like to see it.

Today I’m tinkering around in the pond a bit since it’s going to hit 80 degrees. I’ll cut back the waterlilies, clean the pond pump, and add netting over the pond to catch the leaves. It’ll be a fun day for me. And now, here’s some weekly inspiration for you!

This Week’s Friday Finds:

Do you love fall colors and yearn to spend as much time outside while the weather is still cooperative? Check out these 15 scenic fall hiking destinations across the country. One might be located near you!

Looking to do a bathroom makeover? Here’s a list of must-have measurements before you begin.

Old houses like mine seem to have no shortage of awkward angles and weird layouts. If you have the same problem in your home, be sure to check out these ideas for awkward corners.

If you crave cozy spaces this time of year, you’ll love seeing Danny Seo’s little hillside hideaway that’s just 1,100 square feet.

In addition to getting fall gardening done this weekend, I plan to whip up a batch of pumpkin fettuccine alfredo. It’s soooooo good!

Following is the video of the waterfall that Aquascape installed for Garden Answer. We’re giving away a waterfall kit so you can install your own! You can enter here: aquascapeinc.com/gardenanswer

And here’s a longer video from Laura that includes more detail, including information on how to enter to win your own waterfall:

You must enjoy your job. The people you work with are such a hoot! The ponds, waterfalls and landscaping are gorgeous to look at and listen to! I did enter the contest – fingers crossed.

I have been fans of Garden Answer from the beginning. I watched the pond installation a few days ago on You Tube and on FB and your company did just an outstanding job! I wish I could afford it…you guys do amazing work.
