Friday Finds #35: Making It Thru January

We’re almost there! The end of January is just two days away and then we’re into winter’s shortest month. Is anyone else checking the weather app to see the upcoming times for sunrise and sunset? Please tell me I’m not the only one!

At least it’s now light out when I leave work at the end of the day. That gives me a bit of hope. And every morning, I look out the kitchen window at my garden koi pond, longing to see the water lilies in bloom and the fish swimming about.

Right now the fish are all huddled at the bottom of the pond in the fish cave. I can see their little noses (do fish have noses?) at the opening to the underwater rock cave. I’m sure they’re just as anxious as me for pond season.

I should get some pond photos this weekend. Beautiful ice formations are hugging the waterfall and drifts of pure white snow frame the clear water. Soon. Soon I’ll be able to sit out on the deck and dangle my feet in the water. Until then, I’ll have to settle for beauty and inspiration that I find throughout these remaining winter days. Here’s what I’ve found this week:

Friday Finds

Country Living magazine just released 10 happy paint colors to add to your home. Which color are you most likely to use?

Kristen at Ella Claire Inspired made a beautiful table setting for Valentine’s Day, but it would be pretty any time of year. Especially now if you’re craving fresh flowers.

Have you ever thought about growing mushrooms at home so you have them on hand for casseroles and soup recipes? I have to admit, I’m a bit intrigued and might have to give this a try! Mushrooms are a good source of potassium, too!

Lately I’ve been looking for ways to live in an eco-friendly manner, so I was excited to find these 7 tips from my favorite Scandinavian blogger for making your home environmentally-friendly.

For a bit of dreamy travel inspiration, check out these design influences straight from the Amalfi Coast. I’m loving the bedroom with the pink sofa!

Stay warm this weekend and wish me luck as I venture outdoors to get some winter pond photos!

  1. Oh, you’re definitely not the only one checking the sunrise and sunset times! Also, your intro photo made me feel more relaxed as soon as I saw it – thank you!

  2. I would definitely choose the Baby Soft pink paint. I have fallen in love with pink lately. Have a great weekend, Jennifer. Spring will be here before you know it.

    1. Funny how every Feb I start looking for something pink. Normally it is not a color I wear. Some of my Hellebores are blooming so spring is coming!
