Mad for Plaid: 11 Decorating Ideas

Plaid patterns and fabric remind me of rich woolens from Pendleton Woolen Mills. Back in the day, lucky was the lady who owned a pair of classic wool plaid pants or blazer from the famed Oregon company. Plaid is a great pattern to introduce into your home. It looks great with solids and other patterns. Check out these ideas and see what I mean. (This post contains affiliate linksSee my  privacy policy.)

Plaids, first known as tartans, come in hundreds of patterns. You’re sure to find one you love since there are so many variations. Here, a blue and white plaid couch plays beautifully off the red wall with its expansive collection of blue and white pitchers.

  1. Love the navy blue bedroom with plaid coverlet. I’m not a real girly-girl floral person, so I do love the addition of plaid to my home. My spare bedroom has a cozy feel to it with a plaid comforter and my kitchen chairs are awaiting a new coat of paint and the seats recovered in black & white buffalo check. It’s casual and down-to-earth for me.

  2. These are some wonderful reminders of all the plaids there still are, i don’t think it will ever go out of style. I have plaids and strips in my home, they are mostly navy blue. Thank you Jennifer. I ordered one of those animal stacks you showed us you bought i finally have one and it’s all because of you, i loved it so much,

  3. I love plaid too!
The best plaid I ever saw was in the form of a kilt, worn by Sean Connery!
I don’t remember what colors it was though. 😉

  4. The family joke in our family is “Mom’s favorite color is plaid.” I’ve never been a girlie-girl and have always been drawn to plaids and buffalo checks. We had a burgundy/hunter green/navy blue plaid couch when the boys were little and I loved it! Currently, I use different duvet covers that I can switch out the seasons with different plaid. I guess I’m just mad for plaid 🙂

  5. Really like that first photo…the Robert Brown room. Great mix of patterns and I’m intrigued by the framed vintage photo. Would love to see that close up. Probably military, but still interesting and so appropriate to the room.

  6. I tried to find that grey plaid setee the sweet pup is sitting on but no luck. The light shades of grey plaid with those wood legs is adorable! Saved it for inspiration.
Plaid really warms a room but for spring it’s nice to see light shades of the cooler tones. See a lot of plaid in the winter cold months. Light plaid sheets for the summer would be nice to see…maybe I’m missing them?
