Make a Beautiful Silk Fall Flower Arrangement

Do you love the fall season? The colors are so amazing. I love bringing fall colors into the house with silk flower arrangements. Today I’m sharing a tutorial for creating your own bouquet of posies in a bushel basket! It only takes a few minutes. (This post contains affiliate links – see my privacy policy.)

When I create flower arrangements, I make sure I have more than enough flowers and greens to fill my vase – in this case, I’m using a bushel basket. Any flowers that aren’t used can be placed elsewhere in the home. Even a single stem in a simple vase is pretty. I chose a blend of fall colors, from deep burgundy to pale peach.

I bought a new bushel basket, but an old one would be equally charming. Start by placing long stemmed greens in your basket. Let them flop over the sides. The idea is to create a few strands that fall lazily to the sides.

Next, place a fall flower spray. Rather than cut the end of the too-long stem with wire cutters, I bent it under. This way I can “un-bend” it for re-use in another vase that might be taller. Next, fan out the flower stems so they take up more space. This is a budget-friendly tip. Rather than spend more money on individual stems, the spray is less expensive and looks like separate stems if you fan it out.

See how quickly the fanned-out spray of flowers fills the basket? It also creates a cradle of sorts for the rest of your floral stems. No need to use chicken wire or tape across the top of your vase or basket since the floral spray creates support.

After adding your flower spray, insert a few floral stems here and there. I used dark burgundy mums to create a rich look.

Next, add your contrasting, lighter flowers to break up the darkness and create visual interest. There’s no hard and fast rules with this silk fall flower arrangement. Think of flowers in nature – they’re kind of haphazard. Your arrangement doesn’t have to be perfectly coiffed like you’d find in a floral shop.

Finally, add any accent pieces to create interest. I used upright creamy flowers and spiky brown feathery things (I’m sure there’s a proper name for them).

Now it’s time to find a spot for your silk fall flower arrangement. Feel free to tweak it a bit, moving flowers slightly until you get the look you want. Just don’t spend too much time fussing over it.

Pottery Barn always has great-looking flowers, but they can be a bit pricey. I also like to search on Etsy and Amazon, too.

Dahlias, ranunculus, hydrangeas, and protea all make for a beautiful fall bouquet.

One of the best things about using faux flowers is their flexibility. You can bend stems and re-use the flowers over and over. And in my opinion, it’s best to pay a little extra for realistic silk flowers. In the long run, they’re much cheaper than fresh flowers.
