Simple Christmas Decorations: When You Don’t Want to Overdo
Who’s in the mood for simple Christmas decorations this year? Maybe there are other things you’d prefer to do this holiday season. Or maybe you’re just plain tired of all the work that goes into elaborate holiday decorating (like me). It’s okay to cut back. It doesn’t mean you have a bah humbug attitude. It just means you have other priorities this year (like your sanity). So join me this year in celebrating the lighter side of Christmas with less adornments and more thoughtfulness.
In the entryway of an historic Colonial home, a single, large wreath adorns the front red door. No other holiday decorations appear and the look is still beautiful and festive, with fluffy snow outside.
If you don’t feel like putting up a big tree this year, opt for a small tree in a cute basket like the one I added to my simple Christmas kitchen a few years ago.
Keep Christmas decorations simple in the dining room by adding an unfussy centerpiece flanked by candles. The mood is cozy and festive, but not overdone.

I’ve used this look before – hanging small ornaments on branches from the yard. It’s super simple and looks fun and whimsical no matter where you place it.

How cute is this? A tiny tree with festive candy can ribbon bows in a glass vase. It doesn’t get any simpler than this! You could even skip the bows and it’d still look sweet and merry.
Have you ever considered a naked Christmas tree? If it’s a real one, you get to enjoy the wonderful aroma.
Most of the Christmas mantels you see are overloaded with evergreens and ornamentations. They’re gorgeous but you can still create a pretty look with just a few adornments. One thing I always remind myself when decorating for the holidays, is that whatever I put up, I have to take down.
Here’s an interesting concept. This fun tree in a Victorian living room has ornaments on the branches, and lights on the floor. I don’t like stringing lights on a tree, and pre-lit trees can still have that one strand that goes out each year. So I kind of like this unique approach to decorating your holiday tree.
Rather than create an elaborate floral arrangement for a table, place pillar candles with faux greens in a pretty box or bowl. This only takes a few minutes to accomplish and doesn’t break the bank like real flowers sometimes do.
Do you decorate for the holidays in your bedroom? Consider a simple wreath above the headboard and you’re done.

I hope you enjoyed today’s collection of simple Christmas decorating ideas for this year’s holiday. I’m all about keeping it easy and stress-free and might not even put up a big tree.
I loved these ideas and reminders of how to enjoy the season in a simpler way. Kudos.
Thank you for sharing! Each suggestion was festive, beautiful and applicable to an understated approach for our house this year.
The first night of Hanukkah is on Christmas day. Are there any Hanukkah decorations? Happy Holidays to everybody.
I love the kitchen tree it is simply but does the job. I don’t always light bigger trees but do like to put sparkly lights on smaller trees. To me easy on easy off because as you said you do have to remove them. LOL
Yes, the dismantling is the worst part, but I still enjoy the doing and the result. Right now I’m facing dismantling my fall decor and I went all out this year, not only inside, but decorating my balcony with about ten pots filled with faux autumn leaves, berries and florals. They have given me so much pleasure but will soon be pulled apart and replaced with faux winter greenery that will be good through late spring here in the foothills of the Rockies.
Awesome, every picture and idea, so much easier
Loving the sweet and simple decor! I’m trying to downsize and be more natural in my Christmas this year! Wish me luck, simple is hard when your a “stuff” girl 😂
