Beautiful Room Transformations and Good Eats for Birds and Humans: Friday Finds

Welcome to the first installment of Friday Finds in 2023! It’s always fun to wonder what a new year will bring and I hope this year’s prospects aren’t worrying any of you too much. When I get worrisome thoughts, I try to immediately remind myself to think of something else that’s more pleasant. I tend to be a worry wart, but I’m working on that. Let’s move on to today’s special treasures that I hope you enjoy as much as I do.

A couple of years ago I stumbled across the blog, Lobster and Swan. Although she doesn’t post a lot, her decorating is always inspiring. The newest room of her home that she’s sharing is her pale and pretty living room. The use of slipcovers make the space feel comfortable and inviting.

Old houses always have their quirks. Some are charming, and some are annoying. Check out this stunning kitchen that used to live under the stairs. It was redesigned for today’s living and cooking.

This morning I raised the window blind and was greeted by a fresh dusting of snow outside. Although pretty, it left me craving warm days of summer with leafy trees and floating butterflies. So I thought I’d share some beautiful garden inspiration on today’s Friday Finds.

I don’t typically share fashion inspiration here at Town and Country Living, but these 40 fashion hacks from the royal family were too good to pass up. Some are clever, some are funny. One of my favorite royal family fashion hacks is putting weights in the hem of your dress so it doesn’t blow up on a windy day. I never thought to do this, but it does the trick.

It’s not too late to attract birds to your yard this winter. See how to make bird feeders using oranges. I plan to make a couple of these over the weekend. We already have a couple feeders out that attract cardinals, chickadees, and woodpeckers. But why not give the birds another option for al fresco dining?

And now for the weekly recipe! Doesn’t this spiced apple and hazelnut babka look and sound delish? It’s the perfect comfort food for a wintry day.

Enjoy your weekend, and be sure to come back tomorrow. I have a giveaway that I’m announcing!

  1. Thanks, I can’t believe how many regulations members of the royal family have for dressing, just unreal. I am so glad I’m just a regular person, lol!!

  2. I was looking for weights to weigh my dogs winter coat down at the hem. I couldn’t find ones that were just the right weight nor a hole for sewing. The royals live a life that is interesting from afar but boy would I not enjoy having eyes on me every time I went out.
The orange bird feeders are cute! We just bought a netted tray that hangs just under our feeder to keep the seeds that are tossed or dropped from landing in the yard causing a mess. Who knew there was such a thing?
Keeping my focus on the seasons to do’s ..like preparing for what to pot and plant this spring is keeping my mind free from worry. I so understand. I keep the news to a minimum too.
