Friday Finds #36: Let’s Talk Flowers

I’m not just talking about real flowers that you grow in your garden or arrange in a table top bouquet. I’m talking any kind of flowers you might find when decorating a home. Whether it’s loud and proud wallpaper, or a simple primrose in the windowsill, today is all about flowers.

Winter is really gnawing at my nerves this year and I find myself craving summer breezes with flowers gently blowing in the wind. It gets to the point where I have to push those feelings aside because those warm and sunny days are still at least two to three months away. Ugh. Does anyone else feel the same way?

To keep from sounding like a complete Debbie Downer, I try to focus on bright spots in the day like fresh white snow sparkling in the morning sun. Taking note of small blessings also helps – for example, all of my children are currently healthy and gainfully employed.

Also, the grocery store has $5.99 bunches of tulips in a variety of colors and I may just have to bring some home this weekend. My fear is that doing so will make me long for spring and summer even more!

Enough of moping about winter even though we’re in the midst of a snowstorm as I write this – I’m focusing all of this week’s Friday Finds to the subject of flowers. I hope you enjoy this bit of cheer on a wintry February day!

Friday Finds:

For some reason I’ve always been fond of napkin folding and at one point, had a book with lots of ways to create something fun with them. This week I stumbled across a new creation – napkin roses! They’d look pretty at any table setting.

Ready to add peonies to your garden this year? Here’s some great pointers for growing peonies to help them look their best.

Normally I’m not a fan of faux flowers, but I have bought them on occasion. Pottery Barn has the most realistic faux flowers I think I’ve ever seen.

If you don’t want to buy flowers, you can make them! Martha Stewart shares tutorials for making crepe paper flowers. Might be a fun project for a winter afternoon.

While you’re in the crafting mood, try your hand at making my very simple hydrangea wreath using a grapevine wreath.

Courtney at French Country Cottage shares how she styles her antique cupboard, which of course includes flowers. She’s the queen of flower arranging!

Finally, I’ll end with a collection of rooms designed by Amy Berry, which includes floral wallpaper and chintz fabric on furniture.

  1. Thank you for this beautiful post, Jennifer. I just love Amy Berry’s collection of rooms. Chin up, and have a great weekend.

  2. Feeling the same way. The winter weather is really coming in today through the weekend..so, I ordered flowers for my spring basket that hangs on our front door. It made me happy:0) I planted my peonies last year so I am so hoping I have some flowers this summer. I have many buds/eyes at the base and I’m trying not to cover them too heavily as I know they won’t bloom well if I do. Fingers crossed! Pottery Barn does have great faux flowers but the price stings a bit. One day closer to spring!

  3. I have been busy changing some things around my house and sewing some curtains. Winter is the perfect time for changes and busy inside work. I really loved all the flower ideas and would like to put up some pretty wallpaper in my bathroom. Thank you and I am ready for some flowers to bloom too, have a great weekend.
