Sensational Charleston Cottage: The Best of Rustic Coastal Style
We’ve had several inches of snow this weekend in Chicagoland, so I’m in the mood for something warm and coastal, like today’s darling Charleston cottage that combines a bit of rustic, coastal, and traditional – all in one amazing home.
First up is the beautiful stone fireplace that takes center stage in the living room of the cozy beach cottage. An oil painting of sailing ships hints at the ocean just steps away, while French doors give access to the views.
This Charleston cottage wears a pleasing mix of natural and painted wood. Light blue chairs gather around the white dining table. White paneled walls contrast against the knotty wood pine walls in the adjacent living room.
You’ll find painted cabinets in the same blue as the dining room. The wood counter top on the kitchen island gives the room additional warmth, and the school style pendants add a charm all their own.
A cozy dining nook is tucked into a corner of the kitchen, complete with a built-in banquette and more beach paintings.
Plenty of architectural details fill the Charleston cottage, like the transom window above the doorway leading into the kitchen.
Is it possible to fall in love with a bathroom? If the answer is yes, then I’m in love! The double faucet farm sink creates a charming focal point in the wallpapered bathroom.
On second thought … I think it’s this amazing bathtub that steals the show in the bathroom!
In the master bedroom you’ll find another stone fireplace. The vaulted ceilings don’t look cavernous since they’re lined with warm wood. In my childhood home we had a vaulted ceiling in the combination living/dining room. That ceiling was also lined with wood and kept the room feeling cozy.
Such a darling girl’s room with plenty of white and touches of pink. Patterned roman shades in patchwork style lend country appeal in this Charleston cottage.
Even the staircase in this charming home pays attention to detail … note the nautical style handrail!

I could move into this house. I love it. It is filled with nice details and is so warm and inviting.
Gorgeous!!
Jennifer, I love homes, decorating and gardens. For most of my life I’ve been studying blogs, magazines, decorator showcases and all the wonderful pictures and comments you feature. Your beautiful site is by far my most beloved, I look forward so much to
everything you publish………you bring me great pleasure. Thank you and love,
Valerie Scheel
I love, love, love this house!! The combination of the painted and natural wood is beautiful, and the furnishings are so lovely.
The only problem I see is in the bathroom with the trough sink. Wouldn’t the cabinets underneath the sink be in the way when you wanted to use it? There seems to be no room for your feet as there’s no toe-kick.
So glad someone else said it! I love that sink in the bathroom, that cabinet underneath totally ruins the look!
Very cute!
