Choosing Kitchen Colors: An Easy Update

kitchen ideas April 16, 2019

An easy and fairly inexpensive way to update your kitchen is with paint. Whether you choose to paint your walls, cabinets, or just the kitchen island, you create an instant and refreshing change with new kitchen colors!

Now that I’ve repainted several rooms in my house, I have the itch to choose new kitchen colors. I’m not changing my flooring so the new colors need to match my green Mexican tile floor.

The green tile in the kitchen below is similar to my kitchen floor coloring. I like the dark gray color featured on the cabinets. Even the pink on the wall is pretty but I wouldn’t use it in my own home.

The biggest question is – do the kitchen cabinets get painted darker or should they stay light with a darker color on the island. I think either way looks good.

I love the earthy, organic vibe of this beautiful kitchen! I’m not much of one for the ultra modern kitchens despite their conveniences. The Farrow & Ball kitchen colors in this picture are what I’m leaning toward.

Check out the way this next kitchen is painted. They brought the blue up to backsplash height and kept the line going across the bottom of the cabinets.

A fun checkerboard floor is paired with dark kitchen cabinets. My cabinets have never been a dark color because I’m not sure how I’d like the dark next to the green floor – but I might have to do a small sample just to see if I like it.

I’m lovin’ this kitchen for its kitchen colors (are you noticing a dark and light theme?) and also for the gorgeous floral arrangement.

I thought I’d throw this cheery kitchen in just for fun! It’s a cute and fresh cottage look. Don’t be afraid to go bold with kitchen colors.

As I was perusing Farrow & Ball kitchen colors, I started thinking about the cabinets and counter top. I think they need to be replaced before doing any painting. I’ve got my heart set on wood butcher block counters and Shaker style cabinets.

I love the use of colors lately. Contrast is very appealing to me! I’m thinking of doing my island a darker color, but I need a different counter top on it if I do.

I love the idea of the island being a color. Butcher block on one and quartz or another product on the main cabinets is beautiful too

Can’t wait to hear what your direction is going to be

I think you’re right on in your thinking of gray paint with your floor tile. I think it probably would continue the grout color and so could not possibly clash with the green tile. A dark gray on the lower cabinets, I think, would be worth trying to see if you like it and would tone down the green on the floor. It sounds like you’re going to do something – so I can hardly wait to see what it is. I know I’ll love it.

Lighter cabinets, dark island. Keep that floor your focal point. How many homes have them!!!???
Save your energy for that fabulous back/front yard! 🙂

I guess I’m old fashion….white or cream……are my favorite kitchen colors. I do like trim but I don’t go very far with that.

love the contrast of dark and lighter cabinets. Painting my island darker was out of necessity as my kids seem to man handle all the cabinets in our home!
