A recent trip to Lee’s Trees in the country was all I needed to spread Christmas cheer to our cozy, humble porch. Wandering through the tree farm reminded me of my grandparents’ Christmas tree farm in PawPaw, Illinois. People would travel from as far as Chicago to choose a fresh tree and cut it down themselves, or have my grandpa do it for them.
I played throughout the many rows of Christmas trees on my grandparents’ property during summer trips. A world of imagination was just waiting to be discovered. I loved December visits to watch families wander through the rows of trees looking for the perfect tree. It was always a magical moment when my dad would choose the tallest tree on the farm for our vaulted living room.
And so, my Christmas porch decorations reflect the nostalgia of those childhood days at PawPaw’s Christmas tree farm. A fluffy over-sized wreath adorns the front door. Branches cut from the bottom of the two trees we brought home fill a basket. I’ll snip from this collection to adorn packages when wrapping Christmas gifts.
Hot chocolate is a must when hanging Christmas porch decorations during a pretty snowfall. The only problem was – that snowfall turned into a blizzard that knocked our power out for several hours.
The house got a bit nippy inside with no heat for several hours, but hot chocolate and cozy blankets do wonders to warm the soul and body.
The little red car Christmas pillow has become a traditional staple for the front porch during the holidays. Although our family car was a station wagon with faux wood panels on the side (and not a cute little red bug), we did haul our Christmas tree home on the top of the car from grandpa’s tree farm. This holiday pillow designed and created by my friend Lucy at Craftberry Bush, always reminds me of those family trips to choose our tree.
Mother Nature provided the best of Christmas porch decorations this year – a healthy dusting of snow!

You mean you don’t have the station wagon pillow? I have one. It’s precious.
I love the snow but, of course not power outage. Your porch is beautiful and your memories were wonderful too, i think that is part of Christmas the memories.
Your porch is cozy and inviting, as is your entire home. You certainly have the perfect touch of style and comfort. While I don’t do much porch decorating in the winter (the entry to my small porch faces West, right into the rain, sleet and snow that next-door neighbor Illinois sends our way), I do keep a winter wreath on the storm door. However, since I’ve pretty much stripped it bare, I’m already thinking of ways to make my porch much more friendly come Spring.
Jennifer the snow makes the perfect addition. I love the lived in feeling of your porch, not fussy and extremely welcoming.

Your porch looks Oh so cute and cozy! How fun that your Grandfather had the PawPaw Christmas tree farm! Our power went off for about 15 minutes, lucky for us! I was just wondering, what door to you usually Use? The be-wreathed door, or the other one?
Hi Nancy! Yes, you are lucky that your power was only out for 15 minutes! I breathed a huge sigh of relief when ours came back on around 7 in the morning. We use the “be-wreathed” door as the dark blue door on the left doesn’t open! It was sealed shut before I bought the house. One of these days I’m going to write a post about all the quirks of our old house!
