Cottage Kitchens: A Charming Collection

When you talk about cottage style, it doesn’t necessarily apply to small living spaces. If you subscribe to any of the cottage style magazines available today, you’ll notice some of the featured homes are actually quite large. Cottage style is first and foremost comfortable, often colorful, and signified by slightly worn finishes and painted furniture. Bead board, natural textures, wicker furniture, and floral fabrics are mainstays of cottage style. I love the cottage look, especially when applied to kitchen spaces. So today I’m sharing my love for this comfy cozy style by sharing a collection of cottage kitchens.

Touches of aqua pair with dusty rose in this pretty kitchen. Simple cabinets are offset by a beautiful wood floor. Note the unique use of mismatched chairs around the painted kitchen table.

Cottage kitchens aren’t always white. This cozy kitchen wears beautiful wooden cabinetry with wood counter tops and flooring. Painted bead board keeps the space fresh and light.

Beach style decorates this light and airy kitchen, with starfish standing at attention above the French door and colorful glass bottles reflecting sunlight from the skylight above. Pale blue paint washes the wall like waves on the beach.

If you don’t like to overwhelm your home with color, this charming kitchen shows how to add a delightful touch of many bright colors by lining up nesting bowls on a single shelf. A colander of apples, a floral curtain, and flowered apron add just a bit more color to the space.

On the other hand, if you love color in the kitchen, consider a bright yellow for cabinetry. It’s perfect for cottage style spaces.

This blue cottage kitchen has a great vintage vibe. Cabinets from the 50’s are left unadorned with a vintage counter top. Note the old-fashioned faucets at the kitchen sink and the metal paper towel dispenser. And what kitchen doesn’t look appealing with a fresh-baked pie cooling on the counter?

Farmhouse appeal pairs with cottage style in this beautiful kitchen. An industrial stove looks great under its unique hood, while a wooden counter top echoes the grains of the flooring below. A mint green kitchen island looks perfect nestled in the center of the room.

Painted kitchen cabinets really stand out in this large kitchen with a unique mix of open shelving and glass front cabinets. Note the use of mismatched hardware.  Ball feet on the kitchen island give a pleasant nod to quaint cottage style.

Stunning blue and gray tile create a colorful backsplash in this white kitchen with bead board paneled cabinet fronts. A touch of natural texture graces the windows in the form of bamboo shades. Did you notice the built-in wine rack above the pass-through window?

I love a substantial kitchen island and this one doesn’t disappoint. Pale blue blends beautifully with the white, creating soft appeal. I would love to cook in this cottage kitchen!

  1. These are all wonderful, Jennifer. I really love the one with the wood shiplap and white cabinets – so unique and such a great contrast. The second one reminds me of my Grandma’s kitchen. She had a sink just like that and it was in an actual farmhouse. Thanks for sharing these!

  2. Jennifer,
All of these kitchens were like a breath of fresh air. So bright and cheerful. I could almost feel the breeze coming in through the windows!
    Thank you.

  3. I agree with you that some cottage kitchens in magazines are huge and not the traditional cosy ones that we should think of in a small home. I prefer the smaller cosy ones myself. The photo of the vintage aqua kitchen is awesome. My mother-in-law had one of those chrome dispensers for wax paper, plastic wrap and paper towels just like in the photo. These are all beautiful kitchens with lots of ideas. Thank you.

  4. Love these kitchens! The second one has the layout of my childhood home. Small with the table right there in the kitchen ❤️

  5. These are all charming kitchens, I love the smaller and closed kitchens the best, I had a wide open kitchen and when people dropped by it was always messy so, I put up a arched door way. My big counter in the middle of the room got tore down and I enjoy an eat in kitchen around a small table, so much cozier.

  6. They are all just darling, Jennifer, but the second one caught my eye with the cute little open shelves under the cabinets. Just enough space to put a few plates and other things. I agree with the other ladies that these cozy kitchens are so charming!
