Yes! My farmhouse table from Pottery Barn finally arrived! I ordered the Stephens table last October and for whatever reason it was on back order for a while. But it’s now in my breakfast nook and it was worth the wait. (This post contains affiliate links.) My new farmhouse table is solid wood. The real…
Our farmhouse kitchen just got cozier with a new kitchen island! I waited until it arrived before decorating the kitchen for Christmas. Hubby and I assembled the island in two hours flat. Now that it’s complete, I’m ready to share Christmas in my cozy kitchen. I’m joining other bloggers for our Seasonal Simplicity holiday tour,…
The past few weeks I’ve been organizing my rooms and getting rid of some items. My neighbor took most of my small furniture pieces and gave them to family members. I’m glad they went to good use and I feel a bit freer and less stressed now that the house is getting in order. My…
Do you have any items in your home that are beyond their usefulness yet you still keep them around? That’s how it’s been with my wooden knife holder. I’ve owned it for at least 15 years and it’s seen better days. When I saw a creative DIY knife holder in a recent issue of Flea…
Open floor plans and open shelves have made a comeback in today’s design world. Seems we like the idea of living in open spaces, unencumbered by walls and doors. While this look may not be for everyone, I thought I’d share open shelving ideas from a few friends, along with ideas from my own house….
When you want to spruce up your kitchen but don’t want to spend a little money, add a bit of color. It’s easy to do and really freshens up the heart of your home. My kitchen is mostly white which makes it easy to add any color. What’s great about adding color to the kitchen…
My favorite room in our circa 1875 farmhouse is the kitchen. I’ve never seen another kitchen that looks like it. Despite the fact that it doesn’t have a dishwasher or a garbage disposal, I appreciate its vintage charm. I’ve filled it with farmhouse kitchen decor; I can’t imagine it with an updated look. Not to mention,…
Fall brings two important things into my life; gorgeous colors and football. I don’t know why football can’t last as long as baseball season. And I don’t know why the beautiful color of fall leaves has to mean barren trees are right around the corner. Well, okay … I do know why trees become dormant…
Kitchens have evolved dramatically over the years, and large part of that is due to technological advancements like the creation of the stove and oven. Back in Colonial America, the kitchen was often a separate building behind the house. It wasn’t until the end of the 19th century when using gas for cooking became more…
Whenever someone asks me what my favorite room is, I always say it’s the kitchen. Not just for the way it’s decorated, but for what it means on a daily basis. The kitchen is where you provide nourishment for your family. It’s where loved ones come together during the holidays and special gatherings. And of…
It’s late August and I’m no where near ready to usher in Fall, but I do love mums and autumn flowers so I had to bring just a few touches of Fall decor into my farmhouse kitchen. I love late summer as it transitions into the next season. Our vegetable garden is ready to harvest…
It’s Farmhouse Friday!! I love Farmhouse Friday which occurs the 4th Friday of each month and includes 5 other bloggers with farmhouse style. This month’s theme is the Farmhouse Kitchen and I’m super excited about it because Polder’s Old World Market is offering $350 worth of their beautiful hand-carved wooden chef utensils to one lucky…
Lately I’ve been a wee bit frustrated because my kitchen is on the verge of chaos. I have craft supplies out on the table, my spices are tumbling over each other in the cupboard, and fruit is out on the counter because there’s too much stuff in the fridge. Sigh. But then something came in…
Before we had modern conveniences, the American kitchen wasn’t meant as a gathering spot for entertaining family and friends. Since there were many more steps to cooking and creating meals in the early days of our country, the kitchen was the workhorse of the home, as opposed to being the heart of the home. But…
