How to Create a Cozy Kitchen: Where Comfort and Culinary Creativity Unite
As the holiday season approaches, most of us will enjoy a cozy kitchen for our creative culinary tasks. It’s colder and darker outside, and the warmth of a kitchen becomes conducive to baking and whipping up our favorite comfort food recipes. When I think of a cozy kitchen, I tend to gravitate toward English style kitchens. To help you find ways to cozy up your cooking space, I’m sharing a collection of beautiful rooms.
English style kitchens tend to incorporate a freestanding cupboard or two. You don’t typically find a row of upper and lower cabinets along the walls. Maybe a few, but the look is more customized without being too expensive.
Wood accessories are key to adding warmth to the kitchen. Wooden stools, bowls, spoons, open shelves, bread boards, and more add to the organic vibe and cozy appeal. Use warm paint colors in the kitchen to enhance a snug feeling.
Green kitchens have been trending for a while now and will probably be around for several years. Add a vintage style stove to create a cozy kitchen. It’s more homey than a modern appliance.
Dark countertops and floors can also add depth and drama to a kitchen. And it’s okay to have a different counter top on the kitchen island. Not everything has to match in an Old World kitchen.
If you really want to add interest to your kitchen, consider a gorgeous mural. You can commission a local artist, or opt for more affordable wallpaper murals that aren’t hard to hang. Either way, the result is impressive and memorable.
To create a cozy kitchen, add some of your favorite culinary collectibles. Stone crocks, wooden utensils, decorative tins on the wall, vintage baskets for holding kitchen towels, or unique collections like vintage teapots.
Don’t be afraid to add cool colors. Powder blue looks great on a custom hood and cabinetry. The wood floor and shelves add a touch of warmth to the space.
Textures are a great way to add warmth and interest when creating a cozy kitchen. Here, rattan chairs and terra cotta pots are used to incorporate an organic feel.
I like to include plants in my kitchen, but feel free to populate your cooking space with real or dried flowers. Most of us tend to decorate our formal dining room with a centerpiece, but don’t neglect the kitchen table and counters.
A hanging pot rack is a sure-fire way to create an English style kitchen. Add curtains or shades in a warm hue and you’re good to go.
Who says beige is boring? Use a variety of shades in your kitchen to create the feeling of a warm hug when you enter the room. It’s sure to put you in the mood for baking!
Of course, if color is your thing, don’t be afraid to pair more vibrant colors like yellow and red.
You can never go wrong with natural wood in the kitchen. A honey pine farmhouse table with chairs infuses instant warmth.
Today’s examples of a cozy kitchen are sure to provide enough inspiration for your own cooking space. Add just one or two ideas – no need to make a complete overhaul of your kitchen.
Love all these cozy kitchens!
So many beautiful ideas. I love a cozy kitchen and these were great examples. Since it turned colder, I have to stay in, front porch setting is too cold for mornings, so more baking I have done.
Like all these ideas to add warmth and color yet fresh looking. Thanks for the inspirations!
Love the little yellow range and am intrigued by everything in the teal blue kitchen with all of the floral arrangements.
