Cozy Up Your Patio for Fall: Practical Decorating Tips
Just because summer is fading doesn’t mean you can’t continue to enjoy your outdoor living spaces. Today I’m sharing some practical decorating tips to create cozy ambiance on your patio, deck, or porch.
The gorgeous colors of fall provide free decorating outside which is a plus if you have lots of trees and bushes around your patio. Burning bush is a favorite of mine when it turns a bright fiery red in autumn. This backyard patio enjoys a variety of colorful plantings along with beautiful seating and dining areas.
A collection of neutral pillows and throws cozy up a covered deck decorated with a basket of small pumpkins and an urn with a pretty chrysanthemum.
Since the days are getting shorter, a string of lights are a practical decorating idea for a fall patio. Add in a textured golden throw and you’re all set for a quiet evening outside.
Summer beach reading is a popular pasttime during hot weather, but consider creating a cozy reading spot outdoors for crisp autumn days. Grab a blanket and a hot cup of coffee or cider for warmth.
Add plump textured pillows to outdoor furniture for cozy comfort in the fall. Can you picture yourself relaxing on this sweet little swing? Looks like the perfect place to enjoy fall colors just outside your home.
Al fresco dining is popular in summer, but don’t dismiss the idea of dining outside in the fall. A beautiful fall bouquet and a simple apple centerpiece create a wonderful environment for enjoying a tasty slice of apple cake. Putting in a little extra effort when dining creates a memorable experience.
Lanterns are a very practical decorating idea for outdoor spaces during the cooler days of fall. Add a string of Edison lights for additional evening glow.
I use a lot of mums and pumpkins when I decorate outside spaces. When I’m sitting on this deck by my pond, I always have a warm throw for my legs while I watch the fish swim. Mums and pumpkins are fairly inexpensive so they won’t break the bank.
Sometimes you don’t need to add anything to your outdoor living spaces to make it cozy for fall. Simply keep it clean and enjoy the gorgeous sunset or sunrise as the light hits the colorful leaves.
I love this singular pumpkin in a vintage wooden box. It would look cute anywhere outside, or you could use it as indoor decoration, too.
Speaking of pumpkins, we have a rogue pumpkin vine in our vegetable garden. At first I thought it was a cucumber plant that wasn’t producing fruit, until I saw the beginning of a pumpkin! We have two pumpkins growing so far. I hope we get more!
Beautiful photos Jennifer! I can’t wait for fall, it is my favourite season.
We are having an unexpected heat wave here in Vancouver BC 😑 so I’ll have to wait a little longer!
