Explore the Outstanding Historic Homes of Hinsdale, Illinois
Located just 20 miles west of Chicago, Hinsdale, Illinois is a picturesque village celebrated for its tree-lined streets, timeless architecture, and beautifully preserved historic homes. From stately Victorian and Queen Anne residences to elegant Colonial Revivals and Tudor-style estates, Hinsdaleโs architectural landscape tells the story of a community that values both heritage and refinement. Take a walk with me to see some of these historic homes decorated for fall and Halloween.

An elegant Colonial-style home features timeless charm with its classic symmetry, dormer windows, and refined architectural details. Simple landscaping completes the picture of traditional suburban grace.

This stately Tudor-style home showcases rich architectural detail with its mix of brick and stone, steep gables, and leaded-glass windows. A brick walkway lined with golden mums and pumpkins enhances its warm, welcoming curb appeal.

My favorite from today’s collection of historic homes is this gorgeous blue Victorian that’s a showstopper, with its graceful wraparound porch, arched gable windows, and impeccable attention to detail.

Vibrant fall mums and elegant planters frame the entryway, creating a warm, welcoming scene that perfectly complements the homeโs timeless charm. Note the detail on the corbels just under the eaves.

To the side of the house is whimsical pumpkin display that starts with an old whiskey barrel and a waterfall effect of large pumpkins.

Tall narrow windows adorn a stately red brick Italianate home with dark shutters and a beautifully detailed entry framed by columns and a wrought-iron balcony. Its classic symmetry and refined architectural details give it an air of timeless elegance and historic charm.

A classic white home with an expansive porch captures the spirit of the season with playful inflatable Halloween decorations on the front lawn. It looks like one of the ghosts had a little too much to drink.

Boasting a striking turret and rich red roof, this Queen Anne-style beauty showcases ornate trim and painted details that highlight its historic character. The soft green exterior and mature trees add to its storybook charm and timeless elegance.

A giant inflatable pumpkin grins brightly against the soft blue exterior of one of the historic homes of Hinsdale. Its playful presence adds a fun, festive vibe to the elegant neighborhood streetscape.

Warm autumn charm greets visitors with a cascade of pumpkins lining the stone steps of this elegant home. The natural tones of the gourds beautifully complement the houseโs taupe exterior, creating a cozy and welcoming seasonal display that’s easy to recreate.

Towering pumpkin-headed ghouls guard the front walkway of this stately home, adding a spine-chilling twist to its otherwise elegant faรงade. Their eerie presence makes for a dramatic and unforgettable Halloween display.

Not all of the historic homes in Hinsdale are massive. You’ll find charming and cozy abodes like this cottage-style home that embraces the Halloween season with playful decorations across the front yard.

I had to take a photo of the only black house I saw since my son is determined to own a black home in his near future. He’s looking for an empty lot to build his dream.

Elegant and timeless, this stone and stucco home is framed by bursts of fall color from clusters of mums planted at the base of the trees. The vibrant blooms add warmth and seasonal charm to the stately architecture and manicured landscape.

I hope you enjoyed this tour of historic homes in Hinsdale, Illinois, because I have more to share with you next week. It’s a beautiful town and I think I’m going to revisit it to capture Christmas decorations. I’m sure the area will be quite festive!

I’ve been following your blog for several years now. I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for the interesting insights into American art, interior design, and architecture. Greetings from Berlin, Barbara!
I think my favorite house was the smallest one with the screened porch. I’m currently enjoying some fall weather whilst sitting on mine.
I have been assuming that the black house trend is bigger among younger people? It’s a hard one for me to understand, but I think it’s partly because I live in the Southeast where it’s too hot to consider a dark exterior, and it’s also my age:)
What a lovely area! Thanks for sharing and bringing a special bright spot to the day. It is our first “brisk” morning in Ocala, FL for 2025!!
Love this tour. Love you new photo!
Yours tours of homes are always so enjoyable. My favorite was the stone and stucco. I do love to see all the rooflines these home have that are so intricate and amzing. Newer homes always only have a couple of different angles to their roof. Thanks again and have great day.
