Friday Finds #52: It’s Been a Year!
Wow. It’s hard to believe that I’ve been writing this Friday Finds feature for a year now. I feel like it just started a few months ago. It’s been fun for me to share creative things with you that I find on the internet. I hope you enjoy this series as much as I do. I try to include a mix of home decor, gardening, travel, cooking, and crafts. And I usually give a quick update about what’s been going on in my little corner of the world.
So far the month of June is proving to be a challenge for our gardens due to lack of rain. Luckily for me though, hubby is unofficially retired and has plenty of time to drag the hose and sprinklers around the yard. I dread seeing this month’s water bill! We don’t water the lawn but we have a lot of planted areas so it almost feels like we’re watering the whole yard.
A bit later this month I’m taking my granddaughter Zoe to Lake Michigan for three days of fun and sun. Just us girls! I know she enjoys getting away from her older brother for a while. She gets to be the center of attention without anyone teasing her.
Summer is my favorite season and I’m fully enjoying the longer, warmer days despite the fact we’ve had little (if any) rain. How’s your weather so far? I heard a cold front is coming through for parts of the country but we won’t be affected, so it’s more high 80-degree days for us. I’m okay with that since we have tons of shade around our place.
Enough of the weather, let’s get into this week’s Friday Finds!
I want to start off with my friend Danielle’s summer home tour where she shares some of her top summer decorating ideas. I absolutely love her charming older home located near the Massachusetts shore. She’s so lucky to live in such a pretty area.
Every summer we somehow end up losing the plastic planting tags for our vegetable garden and then I don’t know which tomato is which until they bear fruit. I think I might make these cute garden charms to create a more permanent marker for what’s in the garden.
Speaking of summer crafts, how about this absolutely adorable handmade lemon garland from my favorite crafter, Lia Griffith? It’s so stinkin’ cute! You can find some of her craft kits at Joann stores.
I fell in love with this DIY boho peg rail shelf at Update My Cape. She has such a cute home!
When it’s hot out, most of us don’t want to turn the oven on to cook. Martha Stewart shares 30 no-bake desserts that are to-die-for. The Strawberries and Cream Stack Cake is definitely on my must-make list this summer!
That’s it for this week. Enjoy your weekend and try not to melt out there!
Your no-bake dessert link takes you to the peg rail. And I will say I love your posts!!!
Uh oh! Thanks for letting me know, Sarah. I updated the link – and thanks for saying you enjoy my blog. 🙂

Great finds! After 3 weeks of no rain, we finally began getting rain this week! Still praying for our friends in the Panhandle to get some. I remember about 15 years ago we went about 2 months without rain. We saw our mayor at church and asked him if he would declare a “Day of Prayer for Rain” in our city. He got to work on it and the next week a day was proclaimed throughout the city with the area churches ringing bells at noon as testimony. No joke, it started raining the next day… a little drizzle. Then it rained hard for a week. Nonstop. That drought spell got broken. Amen. 🙂
Oh wow, what a great story, Deb! We were supposed to get rain this week but it never materialized. No rain in the forecast next week either. My water bill is going to be ridiculous. LOL.
We’ve had a week of rain off and on. Today the humidity and heat begins through next week..ugh! I’m not a 90 degree kinda person. That’s just too hot! My roses love it, I don’t. Keeping those baskets watered when it gets this hot is a trick but I get the hose out a couple times a day and I enjoy how pretty the flowers are.
I hope you get some rain there soon. Your trip with you Zoe sounds wonderful! A girls day is just so much fun.
Love your site, one of my favorites! That layered ladyfinger stack is on my ‘make soon’ list. So simple. And I can think of a lot of variations…like cinnamon cream with peaches, or other berries and flavors of cream. If you are a chocolate fan (or addict such as my husband) you could do chocolate cream with crumbled chocolate cookies and some choc. chips. I would love almond flavoring with pears and toasted sliced almonds. LOL, I’m ready to open a ladyfinger shop here 🙂
