Get Ready for Autumn and Transform Your Space with Cozy Fall Decorating Ideas
Although the autumn season is still a little more than a month away, you can start planning your fall decorating ideas now. Am I doing this? No. I’m not ready for fall. At all. It won’t hit me until the very end of September or early October because I’m a full-fledged summer girl. Warm fabric tones make this living room in a renovated barn the perfect place for celebrating autumn. Sunflowers create a pretty fall bouquet on the coffee table. We’ve got several sunflowers in our cutting garden and I’ve already brought a few in to brighten the house.

Plaid fabrics are always a fall decorating staple. If you don’t have plaid furniture, add a plaid throw or lap quilt into the mix. And remember, it’s okay to mix plaids.
If you have a fireplace, adding a fire is a sure-way to add the ambiance of autumn to your home. The addition of gourds and baskets give a nod to the cozy season.
Would you paint a room red? This reading room is bathed in rich color which instantly adds warmth and invites you to curl up with a blanket and a good book.
For those of you who prefer the softer side of fall decorating, here’s a few rooms that add the season into a lighter and airier backdrop. A golden rooster and sunflower tablecloth add just a touch of warmth to this dining space.
A couple of orange-hued pillows in the reading cove and a plaid blanket on the nearby settee add the flavor of fall to this corner. I love the ornate frames that feature botanical prints.
A rustic stone fireplace always adds the warmth and coziness that defines fall decorating. Add orange berry branches or bittersweet for a light touch of the season.
Most of the fabrics are warm in this room but the walls are light and plenty of sunshine bathes the space. Warm pillows are always a great way to add the spice of fall decorating in your home.

We all have our indicators of fall, right? Believe it or not, mine is a slight shift in my sinuses. Also unbelievably, I felt it for the first time yesterday even though the temperature rose to 100°! Ah, August in Central Florida.😜 I had to chuckle at your question about painting a room red. Yes, 30 years ago we painted our guest room red. It was accented with a black antique iron bed, floral/white lace bed linens and airy accents to keep it from being heavy. I think that’s when I started my black chintz China collection which has long since been passed along. Folks seemed to love that room, even the buyer to whom we sold that home. I sometimes wonder if it’s still red because Red rooms are NO FUN to repaint!!

We’re still blazin hot here in SoCal. I get so excited when I first see some Halloween/ fall decorations in the local stores. It’s a reason to believe the endless summer really will eventually end. My stash of “fall” decor is ready to go as soon as soon as I see the high temp dip below say, 80 degrees? At this point I’ll take 90, though- lol.
