12 Things to Love About the Glorious Fall Season

Everyone seems to love the fall season—at least, everyone I know does. If any season captures the essence of “hygge,” it’s autumn. There’s so much cozy goodness to enjoy and today I’m sharing 12 things to love about this glorious time of year.

1. Neighborhood Walks

Who doesn’t love the sound of the crunch of leaves underfoot? Taking a leisurely stroll around your neighborhood is a great way to enjoy the cooler days of fall. Homes look cozier with the changing of leaf colors. I like to grab a cup of coffee at our local coffee shop before a morning walk on the weekends.

2. Simple Fall Decorations

Fall is probably the most economical season for interior decorating. Choose from leaves and berries found on walks to create makeshift arrangements in your favorite vase or pitcher.

3. Wonderfully Scented Candles

In my humble opinion, you’ll find the best-scented candles during the autumn season. From cinnamon to pumpkin, the smell of a fall candle is sure to put you in a content and comforted mood.

4. Apple Recipes

This past weekend I had a fresh-baked apple scone from our local coffee shop and it was so good. Our family usually goes apple picking during autumn and I love making apple recipes like my apple upside-down cake or my apple cake with caramel sauce. Both are so good!

5. A Walk in the Woods

The fall season is by far the prettiest time of year for a walk in the woods. Taking a short drive to a nearby forest preserve is worth the trip to take in such beauty. This path is found at Bliss Woods in Sugar Grove, Illinois, which is close to where I live. When you’re walking down a trail like this, the smell of autumn is in the air!

6. Pumpkins!

As far as I’m concerned, pumpkins are a decorating staple for the entire fall season and not just for Halloween (unless you carve them into a jack-o-lantern). Pumpkins and gourds make budget-friendly decorations, inside or out.

7. Cozy Outdoor Decorations

How sweet and simple is this line-up of baby boos and gourds lining the outside of an older home’s window sill? Exterior decorating for autumn is so much easier than stringing Christmas lights outside in the freezing cold.

8. Colorful Blankets

When fall rolls around, I think I always have a blanket on my lap when watching a favorite movie or browsing the internet on the sofa. My kitties like when I bring out all the fall blankets, too.

9. Fall Wreaths

Don’t tell anyone but I think I like fall wreaths better than Christmas wreaths. You’ll find more options in color and foliage.

10. Autumn Flower Arrangements

From sunflowers to zinnias to mums and more, fall flowers always make such rich, beautiful arrangements. Whether you choose neutral shades or jewel-toned flowers, a fall bouquet is always a thing of beauty. I especially like this arrangement that combines a creamy poinsettia mixed with fall berries and foliage. What a great way to transition from Thanksgiving to Christmas.

11. Fall Festivals and Events

There’s no shortage of fall events through Thanksgiving. From corn mazes to farmer’s markets to small town celebrations, autumn is a great time for getting outdoors and enjoying your community’s autumn festivities.

12. Warming Soups

Doesn’t it seem like soup tastes better in the fall and even winter? I just made soup today that included a few veggies, dill, and plant-based sausage (I don’t eat meat). I made home-made croutons from everything bagels to go on top. One of my favorite comfort food soups is savory butternut squash soup. It’s soo good!

There are so many more things to love about the fall season, like making s’mores, baking cinnamon rolls, taking hayrides, sipping apple cider, and the list goes on! What’s one of your favorite things to do in autumn?

  1. I couldn’t agree more. Fall and everything connected to it is a glorious time of the year. And it lasts longer than the Christmas season (which I adore and sometimes wish December was two months long lol). But Fall….the smell of leaves, festivals, soups, sweater weather, I could go on and on!
