Home Inspiration and Dreaming of Spring: Friday Finds #91
Today is officially the halfway mark of April. Although I’ve been dreaming of spring weather, Illinois has decided to be the April fool by delivering snow flurries and windy days. Sigh. So I’ll continually to wait not so patiently and boost my mood with spring flowers in the house.
One thing I’m excited about this month is my trip to the redwood forest in Northern California. We leave on April 29th. My initial reason for the trip was to run the Avenue of the Giants marathon on May 1st. Well, that’s not happening. Instead, I’m going to run the 10k which is 6.2 miles. I just couldn’t bring myself to do all that training outside in the winter. If I ever do another marathon, it’ll have to be in the fall.
Lucky for me, the shorter race is still available and I can still run through the forest – just for a much shorter distance. We plan to visit the Lost Coast, Eureka, and Shelter Cove. We’re staying in Ferndale. If any of you know of must-see places near there, let me know! I’ve never been to Northern California. San Francisco is as far north that I’ve been on the west coast. I’m really looking forward to new explorations.
Enough about me and my trip (I’ll take photos of the gorgeous homes in Ferndale), let’s get on with this week’s Friday Finds.
First up is a collection of homes with dark exteriors. Have you noticed a trend toward dark gray, deep navy blue, and even black houses? I see more black houses when out exploring new neighborhoods. Are you a fan, or no?
Last week I broke down and got a new laptop (that’s super fast), which makes me want a designated office space. My sitting room doesn’t get much use so maybe that’d be a good room to add a desk. Here’s some home office inspiration that has my wheels turning.
Another room in the house that could use a makeover is my downstairs bathroom. That’s definitely happening this year. Nothing major, just some cosmetic updates. I found this pretty guest bathroom makeover that’s convincing me to add wallpaper to the upper walls in the bathroom. I love the collection of wallpaper at Rifle Paper Company. I see several I could use.
Are you on Instagram? I stumbled across the Halfway Wholeistic account and fell in love with her classic style in a neutral palette.
And if that wasn’t enough home inspiration, check out this Spanish style home with gorgeous interiors!
Yesterday I shared a collection of spring flower container gardens on my other blog. I’m itching to get some dirt under my fingernails but am waiting for the weather to warm up just a bit more.
I hope you have an enjoyable Easter celebration this weekend. If you don’t have a dessert chosen yet, these mini carrot cakes with cream cheese frosting look pretty cute and yummy. I’m going to my son’s house and if I can find time, I’ll make these to take with me.
I would recommend a visit to Mt. Lassen- so beautiful. Hope your trip is wonderful. I enjoy reading your posts with the lovely photos.
Hi Jennifer!
Fern Canyon in Prarie Creek Redwoods State Park is beautiful. Also Patrick’s Point, now called Sue-Meg State Park is a gorgeous coastal area near Trinidad. It is beautiful up there! Enjoy your trip!
When I was young, my parents took a trip to Virginia and North and South Carolina, it was fun but I do remember the houses in the coalmine area were darkly painted because of the dust from the mines. I thought that was a great idea. Thanks for this post always enjoy have a wonderful Happy Easter.
Mendocino is a lovely place to visit. On the coast. Lots of old houses.
Yes, plenty of tasty restaurants in Mendocino, quintessential seaside charm. If you get a chance to stay at the Point Arena Lighthouse, don’t pass it up. They have B n B rooms and suites in the old light house keeper quarters. You feel like you are a lighthouse keeper. The sound of the waves, the smell of the ocean, the light filtering through the sea air. It’s a once in a life time experience.
Ferndale is a charming town. Just lovely.
