How the Warmth of Wood Finishes Add Wonderful Ambiance
When I first started blogging 13 years ago, painted finishes were all the rage. Bloggers were refinishing furniture with chalk paint and using color on painted trim in various rooms. Fast forward to today and wood finishes are reappearing to add warmth and texture to interior spaces. Today I have a collection of rooms that feature the use of natural wood. Take a look!
This beautiful kitchen is all about texture and warmth. Rough hewn ceiling beams combine with stone walls and wood cabinets and flooring. Light painted trim and creamy walls keep a feeling of lightness in the space.
A rustic dining room is wrapped in wood, from the ceiling to the walls to the floor. Even the table and seating are wooden. Despite all the natural wood, the room features an element of lightness due to the large window that lets in natural sunshine.
For a lighter look that embraces the warmth of wood, a cream-colored kitchen features a wood floor and ceiling. I’ve always loved the combination of wood and white in the home, and this kitchen executes it perfectly.

When you’re going to use natural wood finishes in your home, the cool look and feel of stone is wonderful pairing for an elegant yet rustic vibe. The vintage wicker sofa is a unique touch in this covered porch with its flagstone floor and cozy fireplace.
For a lighter look, homeowners opt for a paler wood in this cozy breakfast nook with wraparound windows. A natural wood table blends well with the surroundings.
A master bedroom gets moody with darker wood paneled walls and a black leather headboard. Rich patterned fabrics add luxury to the bedroom with simple framed silhouettes.
A cool gray and white kitchen gets a touch of warmth through wood finishes on the kitchen island and bar stools.
A true log cabin style home reveals the rustic architecture on the interior walls. The fabulous entryway sets the stage for the rest of the home.

A mix of woods and stains create a cozy reading and napping nook with luxurious cushions and pillows. The expansive windows add to the inviting allure of this pretty spot.
Are you a fan of warm wood finishes? I’m glad to see it making a recurrence, even if it’s just in the form of natural wood furniture.
I love your blog, subscribe, but honestly, all the homes so big, while I and my neighbors are struggling to keep our 1500 sq foot and smaller homes on tiny plots, with climate change, flooding, increased humidity, the sun and no relief from the heat- and winter looks to be wet, cold, warm, crazy. I can’t really get any ideas while looking online at huge ( to me) homes where people with a lot of money can maintain a false sense of reality. Sorry
Yes! I love warm wood. I have a mix with painted trim but warm wood doors and cabinets. I am happy to see wood cabinets return, though painted are also pretty. I don’t like there to be just one way that gets promoted in home design – our homes should be as individual as we are:)
