Ideas for Decorating with Blankets

Last week it was 75 degrees on Monday and by Friday morning the snow was flying!

It didn’t fly for very long but it reminded me that crisp days are ahead and it’s time to bring on the blankets!

Blankets make any room feel cozier but who says they have to be relegated to a corner of the couch?

Check out these ideas for decorating with blankets that I found over at Houzz.

In this blue and white living room, folded blankets are used as makeshift slipcovers.

This is a great option if you have pets and need to protect your furniture.

Just throw the blankets in the wash to clean as needed.

Hang a blanket on a wall to create instant color and visual interest in a room.

It’s easier to hang a large, single blanket than it is to create a gallery wall.

In a bedroom, match blankets with the pillows.

The simple furnishings allow the horse motif to stand out and become a statement piece.

Use blankets to add color to a neutral room. A gold blanket pops against a white chair.

This would be an easy way to change the mood of the room without spending a lot of money.

Mix and match blankets on a bed.

A folded floral blanket complements the striped blanket used as a bedspread.

Rather than stuff your blankets in a blanket chest, display them in an armoire with glass doors.

It’s easy to grab a blanket when you want to wrap up on the couch and watch a movie.

Who says a blanket can’t be used as a table cloth?

I love the cozy, warm feel of this plaid lap blanket turned table dressing.

Oh, I love this room! A fringed blanket hugs the couch,

while another blanket drapes over the corner of a wing chair.

Grab a cup of cocoa and warm up by the crackling fire!

Here’s a great idea for outdoor dining during the cooler months.

Fold colorful blankets over the backs of chairs for your guests to use as the sun begins to set.

The use of blankets allows you to enjoy dining al fresco beyond the summer months.

I hope you’ve now got a few ideas for decorating with blankets in your own home!

  1. I LOVE all these pictures! I have a slight blanket addiction, whenever we travel away, I seem to come back with a new blanket (which usually takes up half of my suitcase on our way back home!!) Thanks for all this pretty inspiration 🙂

    1. Maria, I love that idea of getting a blanket from places where you’ve traveled. Now you can remember each trip whenever you look at the blanket!

  4. You always have the best ideas! My daughter didn’t have that perfect plaid blanket to add to the sled on her porch last year so she bought a plaid scarf from Kohls. They also look great draped over chairs or layered over a comfy throw at the end of a bed. Even as a table runner. The ideas are endless!

  5. Mmmmmm. I love blankets so much! My mother in law and I are both obsessed with blankets, but her husband doesn’t get it. She knows that when she gets a new blanket, she can show it to me and I will oh and ah over it, while her hubby just shakes his head. 🙂
Thanks for sharing all the pretty pics.

  6. I’ve always loved decorating with blankets for summer and winter 🙂 I really like the idea of a charming blanket as a “table cloth” 😀
