Lavender is a nostalgic fragrance and one my favorite scents to bring into the home. As part of the Homemade Beauty and Household Product showcase, I’m going to show you how to make lavender potpourri. If you want to see more DIY beauty and home products, be sure to visit the other blogs in the showcase listed at the end of this post. And now, let me show you just how easy it is to make lavender potpourri!
I mixed my lavender potpourri with mini pine cones and tucked it in a butterfly box.
You don’t need a lot of supplies when making homemade lavender potpourri. Grab some lavender buds and French Lavender essential oil which you can find at Save On Crafts. The little sachet is an earlier project and is filled with just the fragrant lavender buds. I keep the sachets in my drawers. (Note – I was not paid by Save on Crafts to write this post … I just like their products!)
Sometimes I dab some of this essential French Lavender oil on my pulse points. The scent of lavender is known to reduce stress and anxiety and can also aid in sleeping. I’ll be setting some of the lavender potpourri on the nightstand next to my bed.
Add several drops of oil to the lavender buds. I used about 10 drops but if you want a stronger fragrance, use more.
Mix the lavender buds and essential oil thoroughly.
You will love the fragrance while making your homemade potpourri!
If you like, add mini pine cones to your potpourri. All that’s left to do is find a container.
When you’re not home, you can keep the lavender potpourri covered to maintain its fragrance. Stir your potpourri if you need to activate the fragrance. You can also add a couple more drops of oil.
Since I had leftover potpourri, I decided to make some mini sachets.
I filled heat-sealing tea bags with potpourri and ironed the open end shut.
Back in the day when I used to sew a lot, I loved looking through all the rows of fabrics at the Golden Thimble. Even as a young girl I was drawn to vintage style calico, cotton blends, and pretty lace. In 8th grade home economics class we had to sew a piece of clothing and…
We’re still in the throes of winter, many of us are quarantining, and I thought it might be nice to focus on a little bit of luxury. What better way to unwind and de-stress than with a therapeutic soak in the bath tub? Add fragrant, homemade lavender rosemary bath salts to your bath for increased…
Yesterday was the first day of summer and for some people, summer means going fishing! When I was a kid my grandpa took me to Lake Shabbona to fish with a bamboo pole. So in honor of PawPaw, I made a “Gone Fishin’” free summer printable that you can download at the end of the…
Next week is Thanksgiving and I’ve been trying to get the majority of my Christmas decorating done before then. I’ve never finished decorating for the holidays this early, but this year I want to spend as much time as possible with my family during the holiday season. I’m also keeping my decorating simpler and feel…
The holidays are over and you deserve a break after all the cooking, cleaning, decorating, and shopping. What better way to unwind and relax than with a luxurious soak in the tub? Rose bath salts make the experience even better, with their intoxicating fragrance and therapeutic benefits. You’ll find it’s easy to make your own…
Yesterday was Friday the 13th and as I was getting ready to create a new blog post, my laptop crashed and burned! It made a loud pop and died. Permanently. So I ran to Best Buy to get a new laptop which left me with no time to create a new post. So I’m re-publishing…
Mmmm…. love the scent of lavender in my house Jennifer. Great tutorial and I love the many different ways you have packed your lavender potpourri. What fun the showcase has been!!
I love the smell of Lavender. There’s a huge Lavender farm not far from my house and I definitely need to purchase some next summer so that I can make this. All of my friends would love sachets for scenting closets and drawers.
This sounds heavenly, Jennifer! I have both and am planning to make a few! Your container looks so sweet! Beautiful ideas for sharing too! Love your amazing photos,
Kathy
Hi Jennifer, I love lavender and would love to make some of my own sachets! May I ask where you get your lavender buds? I attempted to grow some lavender last year but never harvested any. Definitely want to experiment more this year with growing some!
Jennifer,
I love Lavender especially on my sheets. The little dryer sachets are adorable. Great tips and these would make great gifts with valentines day coming up. Thanks for all your wonderful tips.
Kris
Thanks for the idea and the tip on Save-On Crafts. The company does have some wonderful items, and at very reasonable cost, but my computer sure was having difficulty scanning through their products.
I love your lavender projects. I grew my own lavender for the first time last summer, and I have little containers of buds on display that have lost their fragrance. Now I know how to revive them. Thanks, Jennifer!
