Modern Farmhouse Kitchen in Black and White

kitchen ideas July 22, 2022

When I think of Joanna Gaines’ decorating style, I’m always reminded of a black and white palette. She tends to use the combination more so than other designers, in a farmhouse kind of way. Today’s black and white modern farmhouse kitchen by reDesign home is similar with rich wood for a warm and inviting look.

Mullioned windows take residence above the white farmhouse sink, wedged between black kitchen cabinets and gold hardware. And yes, gold is still in vogue – but note how the faucet is silver – proving it’s okay to mix metals when decorating.

I’m not sure if it’s wallpaper or vertical shiplap on the walls, but either way it looks great in a modern farmhouse kitchen. Marble counter tops lend an air of elegance to the space.

Instead of painted pantry doors, narrow wooden doors were chosen. The use of wood adds warmth to a black and white color scheme, which if not done right, can feel a bit cold.

Details aren’t left to just the areas easily seen. The pantry boasts subway tile and black built-in shelving.

Floating wood shelves create the opportunity to display favorite pieces. Although some people don’t like having to dust what’s on the shelves, I like the openness they provide. Too many upper-level cabinets can become claustrophobic (at least for me, but I’m short).

Very nice kitchen! The wood tones do help with the black and white. Love the pantry door! I would love to have a window in my pantry, but it’s on the sunny side of my house and they actually doubled the walls on that side to keep the pantry cooler in the summer months. I realize summer is still here with 108 degrees this Saturday and Sunday and 105 on Monday. So glad I didn’t keep the window!

Lovely kitchen. I do understand as a short person why you like open shelving, but to me it would just be too hard to keep clean and if you notice that second shelf is still pretty high and needing a step ladder to reach. Before I redid my kitchen I had cupboards but of course didn’t reach the ceiling so keeping that area clean seemed like a continuous ongoing nightmare no matter using the fans on your stove grease still somehow got there and mixing with dust was so hard to keep clean. Now my cupboards go to the ceiling and even though as a tall person I still need to use the ladder it is way easier to keep clean.

Love your black and white kitchen. You are so Blessed to have such space. I live in Singapore and in a unit as big houses and land are very expensive. Instead of kitchen cabinets I have stand alone antique cupboards. Short on storage but easy to keep clean.
    Stay safe and God Bless.

Such a beautiful kitchen! Would you share your source for your pantry doors? I would love to do something similar for our pantry!

Gosh, that’s lovely! Always been a fan of black cabinets in the kitchen provided the room had enough light. I came close to black for my newly rebuilt laundry but went with navy instead. There will be another house so perhaps then. Thanks Jennifer I really like this one.
