Summer Afternoon in My Farmhouse Kitchen
Yesterday I spent the majority of my day in the kitchen. It rained in the morning so I figured, why not get an early start on canning some fruits and vegetables. I cleaned my farmhouse kitchen twice, canned dill pickles for the first time, and then got some peaches into mason jars, too.
I’m inspired to cook when the kitchen is clean and ready to go.
And when there’s fresh fruit and veggies … that just adds fuel to the cookin’ fire!
I LOVE this time of year when the veggie garden is starting to put out its bounty.
It’s a great time to try new recipes and get lost in the whole farm to table movement.
I started the cooking spree by making dill pickles.
I don’t know yet how they taste because they have to stay in the jar for a full week.
I’ll share the recipe in the next couple weeks. It was super easy.
Normally I like my farmhouse kitchen to myself, but I let hubby in here long enough to make guacamole.
Actually, we ended up making it together (I love that he loves to cook).
I’ll share the guacamole recipe with you later this week.
Earlier in the morning, hubby and I started our day with a trip to the local farm market.
I needed some peaches to can Honey Lavender Peaches. Yum!
The farm market had perfectly ripe Georgia peaches.
Like the other recipes … I’ll be sharing this one in the near future.
The lettuce is going to be my lunch tomorrow.
I like to eat a salad each day. That doesn’t always happen, but I try.
In addition to the peaches and dill pickles, I was supposed to make fruit sorbet.
But I forgot to put the ice cream bucket in the freezer, so the sorbet has to wait one more day.
In the meantime … I’ll go eat some of that wonderful creamy guacamole!
Stop back tomorrow for a tour of summer inspiration from these bloggers.
I’ll be sharing a fun and simple summer centerpiece as part of the tour!
Until manana …
OOh your recipies sound good! Honey lavender peaches yum!
You know I love your kitchen! and now I love mine as much too!!!! Thank you for inspiring me xox
Love your sunshine filled kitchen so much! We have about 4-6 weeks until the bulk of the garden is ready to pick and can and I can hardly wait to get started. I’m planning, getting my jars and supplies in order now. In the meantime the butter crunch lettuce, onions, broccoli and now fresh peas are going in my daily salad and we are enjoying that SO much! Growing a huge, lush, food filled garden is my favorite hobby and I love being able to go down in my cellar to pick out our food for the entire next year without having to run to the store for every little thing I need to prepare a good meal. I’m so thankful for the warm summer sun and the rains that keep falling with regularity this year!!
A nice clean kitchen and fresh produce is definitely inspiration for cooking and canning. Sounds like you had a wonderful afternoon and you’ll have some yummy things to eat this winter!
I love when my kitchen is all clean too. Wish SO much we had a garden, I have to get to the farmer’s market. The peaches and tomatoes look SOOOOO good!!!!
