Tour through Blogland
If you read a variety of blogs you may have noticed the “Tour through Blogland” series.
Bloggers write a bit about themselves and some will share a couple of their favorite blogs to visit.
Cynthia at Cloches and Lavender asked me to partipicate.
Cynthia just moved into this new home she and her hubby planned together.
I can’t wait to see the inside once she gets everything put in its place!
So … onto the questions I’m supposed to answer for this “Tour through Blogland.”
1. What are you working on right now?
This is an easy question. We’re painting the outside of our house and it’s a lot of work!
I’m keeping the siding yellow – Butter Up by Shermin Williams.
But changing the window trim color from raspberry to this beautiful blue, called Downpour, also by Shermin Williams. I can’t wait to show you the new color for the front door … but you have to wait about a week to see it!
2. How does my work differ from others in this genre?
My house is about 140 years old and rather than fix its quirky issues (ie slightly slanted floors, crooked doors, etc), I embrace its imperfections.
Yes, we fix the roof and take care of critical issues, but part of my love for old homes is all the idiosyncrasies that go along with them.
Case in point, my kitchen has mostly free-standing storage pieces and built-ins original to the house.
I have just a few “newer” kitchen cabinets and wouldn’t have it any other way.
I don’t have a dishwasher and I’m okay with that. I actually enjoy the “art of dish washing.” LOL
3. Why do I write/create what I do?
Quite simply, to get stuff done!
I honestly don’t think I ever would’ve gotten around to painting my claw foot tub unless I knew I was going to photograph it, write about it, and share it with the world! I love home decor projects and having my blog motivates me to do most of it sooner rather than later.
4. How does your writing/creating process work?
This is a tough question because it really varies. Sometimes I just get an idea in my head.
Other times I’m inspired by a magazine photo or another blogger’s project.
And some times I start with a color scheme and take it from there.
But then there are other times where I’ll just stare at a section of a room and think, ‘What can I do differently here?”
I love being productive and creative. I guess you could say my self-esteem gets a bit of a boost whenever I complete a project. And if it doesn’t turn out quite as I had hoped, I don’t get discouraged. I simply re-tackle the project. It’s all part of the creative process and even creative geniuses don’t always get it right the first time. Failure is okay … it’s part of the journey to success.
Thanks to Cynthia at Cloches and Lavender for asking me to participate in this “Tour through Blogland.”
Although I don’t like choosing favorites because there are so many blogs I love and can’t list them all, here are a few that I turn to frequently for inspiration when I’ve hit a creator’s block …
Jennifer thanks so much for participating in this I know you are very busy.
Cindy
Jennifer,
This was really a sweet post to read more about you. Love the yellow to your home. My favorite color for a period home like yours. Have a wonderful week end.
Kris
Kris, this is the first time I’ve visited your blog and I loved seeing the pictures of your house both inside and out. The paint combination is lovely and now I’m anxious to see the front door. Thanks for sharing.
What a beautiful and romantic home. I love all your touches and that kitchen is so sweet, comfortable and inviting.
Thank you for sharing it with us.
