Yellow Cabinets for a Cottage Style Kitchen

Back when I was younger and just married, I thought every kitchen should either have yellow cabinets or blue. I chose blue for my first home but I sure do like this sunny yellow paint color in a cottage style kitchen.

I find the shade to be perfect for cabinetry. Not too bold – almost like a wheat yellow. Diamond-shaped stone tiles adorn both the floor and back splash, blending perfectly with the counter tops. Note the custom cabinet door for the refrigerator at left.

The kitchen is large enough to comfortably fit a small dinette for coffee in the morning or wine in the evening.

Yellow and gray paisley-patterned valances are all that’s needed at the windows. The styling is perfect for a turn-of-the-century home. A small windowsill provides just enough space for a small flower arrangement. You could also place herbs in this window.

The designer cleverly fit a home office area into the kitchen without losing its cottage appeal. I love the ample cupboard space throughout this kitchen.

The kitchen is on the smaller side, but it’s beautifully designed for functionality. Plenty of windows keep the room light and bright during the day, while historic reproduction light fixtures top it all off.

  1. Oh yes! My first house had the ugliest brown cabinets and I repainted all with a beautiful pale yellow. I totally transformed that kitchen into a beautiful spring/summer design. Awww Good memories!

    Love this kitchen!

  2. Love this cozy kitchen and it is more spacious than I thought. I think though I would take the home office out, I’ve never been a fan of that in a kitchen.

    1. Hi Kim Anne,

I’m with you on the kitchen office idea as I would think it would be distracting trying to get work done there. However, if I had young kids I might like having them color or do crafts there while I’m making dinner so I could keep an eye on them. 🙂
