Christmas Boxwood Wreaths in the Kitchen
The past few weeks I’ve been a bit frustrated. I haven’t been able to find the Christmas decor I want when shopping at local stores. First and foremost on my list are boxwood wreaths. Nobody’s got ’em. And I don’t want big, honkin’ ones either. They need to be sweet and petite to fit my built-in kitchen hutch. This weekend was the monthly flea market and although I didn’t find boxwood wreaths, I did find some boxwood … a bunch for six bucks.
So I made my own wreaths with the boxwood branches.
I was inspired by the simple boxwood wreath I saw over at Just So Lovely.
I used green craft wire to shape 2 small wreath frames.
Then I snipped off long stems from the branches and weaved them around the frames.
As needed, I used thin floral wire to secure the boxwood clipping to the frame.
I didn’t want the greenery to be too heavy. I just wanted simple wreaths.
Three wreaths for 3 doors. I used creamy grosgrain ribbon to hang them.
The ribbon is secured on the back of each cabinet door with a small finishing nail.
I added a little pine tree to this corner of the kitchen,
along with an ironstone pitcher stuffed with leftover boxwood.
The pine tree came wrapped in typical grocery store red foil.
I replaced it with some old flour sack material and red grosgrain ribbon.
A couple of red toile hat boxes add a little more Christmas red.
I found the hat boxes on sale for half price. The smaller one was $6.
But the true stars of this vignette are the boxwood wreaths.

And this is how I’m keeping my vow to simplify Christmas this year.
Using stuff I already have on hand, along with some fresh greens.

The boxwood in my gardens turns bronze color in the cold months so I cannot use it for Christmas…which was why I really planted it in the first place!
May I ask where you found the boxwood stems?
I have heard that Trader Joe’s has boxwood wreaths for $9.99! Such a deal!

Very nice! I love what you created and they look perfect against your white cabinet. I picked up some from The Country Door catalog a few years ago. I keep storing them and they look fine each year. I used a pair on my Santo’s Cage Doll this year. Looks like you accomplished just what you wanted and that’s a good thing!
Boxwoods are one of my favorites I have them all over our yard. I love these wreaths and I love the touch on the toile red boxes.

Oh Jennifer, you made me laugh when you said you didn’t want big “honkin'” wreaths! I know exactly what you mean ~ why is it so hard to find small wreaths?
